I have noticed there is a variation in the tones of the different types of coils, some that I constructed myself, and Minelab and Coiltek. What influences the tone of a coil.

Hi Frank,
Do you mean the basic background tone without a metal signal? I have noticed this and assumed that it was to do with how near the coil was to its optimum parameters. If the tone was starting to rise it appeared to be because the inductance or resistance wasn

Hi Eric
Yes that is what I was refering to, the noise tone of the detector which I have noticed from different coils, some that I have made and others from Minelab and coiltek. The Coiltek 14inch DD seems to have a different tone from other DD,and also one of its best points is it is very quiet in mineralized ground. Could this alteration in the tone be caused by changes in capicitance in the different coils.
