Tone settings..

Minelab certainly gives a variety of tone settings and guess one could argue why and how one works best for them...from one tone to multiple tones certainly gives us quite a variety and my advice experiment as to what works better for you as we all have different, hearing, headphones and just personal preferences. Once you find one that works for you stay with it as its counterproductive to keep switching and many do well with their choice. To compare the multi tones of say an Explorer, Safar with an X-terra...well they are not the same and if you use both might opt for a different option on the X-terra lest you go tonal inept as learning one or the other takes time to be efficient and agree could get quite confusing even if you have the ability tt tell tones very well...

Head phones also. I have only used my Koss UR 30s a few times before I got the DP Bushmasters. Well I have to send the Bushmasters back in to have the now loose and rattling around speaker element repaired. Now that I have a whole bunch of time on both of my ML machines on the DP head phones and swapped over to the Koss, I have discovered that they may actually be better on the SE and I will have to run them on the Xterra and see (hear) what the difference is, and how do I now like them compared to the Bushmasters tone wise.

What I am thinking is that I may use one pair per machine and leave them that way to maintain the differences between machines. It may mean rebuilding the UR 30s with a different cord and earmuffs.

I did notice that the lows on the SE have a richer sound with the Koss, while the highs seemed similar. I think I will run some tests on both machines, both headphones and take a fresh look at which I prefer, tone wise. Comfort and fit will become the secondary concern, if I can determine that one helps me dig less trash or distinguish the dreaded IRON WRAP better.

I do find that I prefer to run the 705 in 4 tones and the SE at 8 or 9 for variability.

I may be able to pick out some of the subtleties on the 705 better with the Koss, you know clicks, pops and scratchiness. I will have to let ya know.

Hmmmm, Pro Golds. Troy. I may have to try another brand and see what else works well. I am thinking of a lesser set of Koss P16 lightweight HPs for the summer
