Tones, 2 way Signals and Heavy Iron

I have the T2 and hunt in iron infested sites. The GB is usually around 70 or so, with 2 or 3 bars on the Fe meter. I really have come to rely on the 2+ mode, 21 disc and 90+ sens. I like the VCO function with sound. I just switch to the other modes (3, 3B and dp a little) for more information. I really do need to go back over some areas that I've hunted in 3 mode (decent amount of trash there). Almost all the coins I have found gave 4 way signals. I've tried digging 2 way signals but don't think I've found a coin that way yet, just iron (I'm in N

I use the 1+ tone occasionally with enough disc to eliminate Nails an it does un-mask a little better if it's machine gun type iron...disc usually 21.. and if you can do it get the sens on 99 .. it will quite the false way down but it only does it with the 11 Bi-Axial coil the 5 inch DD on 99 sens will false in iron just doesn't cut it?

99 sens changes the whole T-2 if you can run it like that..That's the only way I run mine even ..

Here's a tip also when you're in disc mode 2+ hunting in nails and iron set the disc on zero it will give it more gain and allow you to hear if the targets are falsing or are the real thing..on 21 disc 2+ nails can false high tone and if you have them blanked out you will not get the low high role to alert you..Works for me in my dirt !

Wide open all the time on the T-2 and it will amaze you.. In trash or in open fields..

Thanks for the informative post Keith. I will definitely try the 1+ in an area I have already searched. Unfortunately I don't have the 5" coil to try in the iron, but I know I'd pull a few more coins from there. Usually I can get the sens close to 99, but I'll try to keep it at 99. Very interesting regarding the falsing (in 2+ mode with zero discrimination.) I have naturally been going as low on the discrim as I can handle (in my ears!). I can easily run that by the river, so maybe that is where I'll go next.

Anyone have any comments of finding coins on 2 ways signals. I mean I dig enough but don't find much digging two ways. Maybe I'll try Keith's advice first and see what happens.

Admittedly it has been a couple years since I used the T2 but if you are digging a lot of iron on those 2 way signals in the 2 tone processes try switiching to 1+ at disc 21 to check them out for a second opinion. Iron falses vs valid signals can at at times be a bit easier to identify in 1+ IMO. Also try lowering the sens to the 70 range when switching to 1+ to see if that helps further. I never tried running the sens at 99 on the T2 so don't know if it will help or hurt but at 70 sens in 1+ I could pick out the good stuff from the falses pretty easily.

Thanks for the advice Tom. As I've said, I often check for bottlecaps with 3b (It works incredibly well btw) but never have thought to check for iron falsings using the 1+ mode (even though I've seen it mentioned as a good iron mode.) I look forward to going over my old spot now.

Regarding the sensitivity, I'll try it, but everything I've read (from knowledgeable posters) states that you can turn up the sensitivity in heavy iron. The T2 (perhaps the other Teknetics machines) is the only machine that does that, I head. But, that said, I got to try what you are saying, maybe it's a nice way to check for falses, but to run it with high sensitivity until a check is needed.

Regarding using other machines, the reason I don't have a 5" coil is that I'm thinking of picking up a Deus, though not right away. (There is a waiting list for the most part anyway.) That machine (I've been checking forums here in Europe is doing VERY WELL.) It seems like a 4 frequency T2 in many ways. Very fast with everything adjustable.

Some great advice from you two guys, thanks.
