Too much iron!

Having a hard time getting any depth at some old house sites. Found many old coins, some laying right on the surface but nothing more than 3 inches deep. Tried 8 inch coil but still could not keep it out of null. Hope there's a magic fix as the sites are the oldest I've ever hunted. Surely big pennies were harder to lose than dimes and nickels. Need to hunt quickly or crops will be planted.

Jim,
I have lately been hunting in ferrous with IM -16 in heavy iron. If you can handle all the low tones from the iron then I think it will help you pick out a few more. You have to go real slow. The ex recovers quicker, IMO, from a nail hitting on an open screen than it does from a null. I also feel you can run a slightly higer sens with an open screen. Just an option you might want to try.
I still think conductive is the best all around. But I feel ferrous will help you get a few from sites that no-one would dream of hunting. All my finds I found today, which I am getting ready to post, was in ferrous.
It does take a little to get used to it though with all the extra hits. But it is do-able. <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="">
