The computer guy did some more tuneing, said it worked fine for him, no problems I described. Brought it home, hooked it up! Guess what? I didn't work. Unplugged everything except for the mouse. Checked it and it worked, plugged in another, it worked, so on and so on. However, prior to this endeavor I secured the mouse cable better as it seemed loose to me. My take, I think its the mouse plug. Who knows, it works now.

Ronbo...
Had a number of problems with my mouse... kept getting the dreaded dead cursor. Turned out it was the cable coming out of the mouse itself (I guess because there's so much movement all the time?)
Anyway, went to a wireless keyboard and mouse and haven't had a problem since.

Is to do one change at a time. It sounds like thats what you did, and got it fixed! I've had a few problems with mice, especially USB mice. Its like all of a sudden, the USB port wont work, so you move the connection to another port, and the mouse starts to work again. weird!

just as a suggestion. Get a Microsoft digital trackball mouse. My mouse just stays in one position and all that moves is the trackball itself and the 3 buttons (left, right and middle scroll button). Might cost a little more yet I haven't had any problems with it after 2 yrs of use, except having to clean it in the trackball area.
