Out of the blue while working a new site my F-5 started acting crazy, as in when I tried to pinpoint, it would start scrolling through the four audio tone settings?? After turning it off and on a few times and changing the batteries it still acted the same way?? I called Fisher and they suggested I send it in and they would check it out. As I was about to box it up I thought I would see if it was still acting the same way. It was.
In order to give the tecs at Fisher as much written info as I could I hit my test garden and went over a few targets. Darned if it didn't start working again??
So today I went to one of our local parks and started working an area that has given up more than a few Wheats in the past. After about 3 hours and more than my share of iffy signals I came up with five tired Wheats and the rest of the silver chain that I had found part of during an earlier hunt in the same location. Incidentally, for what it's worth the five Wheats all gave near perfect audio ID's in both directions and the deepest was 5".

Most were from the forties and one was from the twenties. This particular spot is wet to the point of being slightly muddy throughout the year. I figure because of the hallow effect on the coins after being in that wet piece of ground for the last 70 plus years, the coils finding them was equivalent to detecting a brass door knob.
But I'm happy, my F-5 is back to it's old self again.
