Took the Explorer out today but first I put the Slimline coil back on

I had a terrible day. Only found one Large copper. An 1843 in pretty good condition. Its having a bath right now.
The coin was the good part. The coil was the bad part. I had all I could do to hear the coin signals. The slimline is so erratic it's like day and night, these two coils. Got home and put the 1050 back on and thats where it will stay.
When I get the Large cleaned I will post it. It should look nice.

What kind of day did I have. I found three pulltabs, a 1991 quarter, and three memorial pennies. Of course I wasn't using an Explorer but mine is shipping today!

Oh, I forgot the Rosie...

I wish I had a bad day like your's.

I guess I cleaned it too much. Took the crap right out of the pits. OH Well.
Don't look at it too long, it's pretty sick looking.

I use olive oil and thats about it. That and a well placed thumb nail when the crud is soft enough to remove.

The slim line coil is better in the trash and a lot more sensitive to smaller targets , I had the explorer 2 with 10.5 coil but i never was happy with the sensitivity to tiny buttons and coins - the slim line will kick the 10.5 coils ass on small targets and in the trash it kicks ass..

Yea, Every time I dig one it feels good.
This one makes 15 Large coppers in 6 weeks.

No matter what she looks like, I would take it. It really isn't that bad if you sit and think about just how long it sat in the ground waiting to be found once again. Sure would be nice if the Coins could Talk. What stories they could tell. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH NH Bob!

On some certain sites the slim line works great. Ideally both coils should be owned (slimline and 10.5 ) that should cover problems with the slimline on certain site conditions. i do not own a 10.5 explorer 2 coil which i have to admit - pizzes me off i admit.

So Bob, the 1050 is the original Explorer 2 coil??? Does that mean all ex 2 coils work on the SE but they may make it more stable or just the 1050???

Glad to see you back in the hunting mood. The ground is so dry im going to get a backhole to hunt. This has been the worst year in a long time for rain.Good luck on your next hunt.

Other than the obvious bulk of the FBS 1050, the slimline it wrapped tighter to downsize. If you take the cover off to clean your coil you will see the lack of quality in manufacturing.
By wrapping the coil tighter and what ever was done to down size made the Slimline very unstable. Once you install the 1050 and fire up the SE it's like owning a new machine.
I am no technologist but what is obvious is obvious.
I am not the only one that is aware of this problem and it is becoming more publicized as time goes on.

I've been hunting now for about 6 or 7 weeks. At first it was hard starting all over again but the treasure Gods have been kind to me.

Bob,

I wonder if some ground conditions make a difference with these coils as I have the Slimline on my SE and find it is more stable than my XS or EX ll were with the stock coils. I can run my sensitivity to 28 manual on the SE while on the XS or the EX ll I couldn't run much over 22-24 without it chattering. Out of all the Explorers I have used I find the SE with the Slimline the more stable and faster response than the older ones were. I let one of our guys around here try one to compare it to his EX II and he found what the SE could see the EX II would too, but the signals were louder and easier to hear on the SE with the slimline coil on it. We probably should have switched coils too and see if it was the coil or the SE that made the difference. I have talked to others around the country and notice some have a problem and some don't is why I wonder if soil conditions make a difference or what.

I feel you could be right. I have had sites that were as quiet as can be , but move into a different one and all hel* breaks lose.
My complaint and many others is that there are more bad soil conditions than there are good soil conditions.
The machine should be able to be set up to hunt all sites as most other brands are. Minelab is supposed to be a quality company with a line of quality machines.
I would like to see them keep their good reputation and offer a solution to this problem. I do not stand alone on this thought.
I am happy to know that you and several other SE owners are satisfied with their machines. But that leaves the rest of us on the front step in the rain with no place to go.
