Took the new 12.5 Excelerator EQ2 Coil for a spin at a small hunted out park and was...

IMPRESSED to say the least. When I get a new coil I purposely take it to a pounded place in hopes of making just one or two finds to show me it warrants replacing my existing coil or at least getting some use. This park is very small and has an area the size of a basketball court in which to hunt. I have pounded it for 25 years with every coil and every detector..including my SE and stock coil. I realize these finds are probably not much to many of you but they mean a LOT to me because I found just ONE lone wheatie the last time I visited the park with the SE and stock coil! ALL of these finds in this picture were about 8" deep. In three hours I found 7 wheaties...2 mercs....and a little sterling ring.
The one greener wheatie between the 2 mercs is a NICE semi key 1913D and should clean up well.
There is quite a bit of trash there as well so I can't wait to go back over the area with a smaller coil. Hopefully a smaller coil will pull a couple more keepers between the trash now that the 12.5 Excellerator has pulled some of the deeper coins out.
It was a VERY stable coil and I was able to run the sensitivity fairly high considering it is a larger coil. I don't think my stock SE coil will be getting much use now that the Excelerator 12.5 coil has proven itself to me. The weight of the 12.5 coil didn't feel any different than the stock coil either.
The important thing was that all the signals I got were very clear and distinct....MUCH improved over the stock coil. IF there were coins any deeper...I'm confident the 12.5 would have hit them hard.

Very nice, I love to find Mercs.I have had better luck with my 8" minelab coil then any other,Its the only coil that I use anymore,as for deepth I have found coins at 10+ if you go slow and listen you can pick out the deep coins. The biger coils are to heavy to swing all day for me.Its ashame that the 1913D wasnt 1914D but still a good find.Good luck and keep that coil swinging.

Some say you get an inch extra depth on coins with a 12 .5 inch coil. I think you do get a little extra depth with the 12.5 coils , go above 12.5 though and i have heard no extra depth is possible on coins. I like 12 inch coils on big open areas , i have never used one in trash though!.

Hey Bryce,

Some of us have been saying this for years. The first year I had my explorer had the stock and ML 7.5". Was finding alot in trash with the 7.5" The next winter bought a 5" and the 15" WOT. Was sure I would use the 5" all the time and WOT almost never.

Long story short tried the WOT after using all the other coils in a very trashy park and pulled three barber dimes and several other goodies. Seems the big coils have a hot spot that allows them to see good targets in much trash. Don't understand why it works, but it does.

so I owe nobody anything. My experience with it is pretty much on track with your 12.5 only no silver. It just gives me a good feeling and the finds enforce it. My original intent was to try it with the ods in favor of a money back return when it didn't prove itself to be better, but it did and I am keeping it. One smooth coil.

Do you have an Explorer II you have tried your Excelerator EQ2 on and compared it with the E2 stock coil? I haven't done a scientific study or direct comparisons yet, but I'm doing much better with my stock coil compared to my EQ2. To be fair, I have not used the EQ2 under ideal moisture ground conditions. But, I did dig a golf ball sized hot rock that sounded good at 13 inches with the EQ2. I don't know, but I'm hearing there might be a problem with the SE stock coil being over sensitive? Thanks Bryce and congrats on your always nice finds.

The other day I hunted around a tree with a 4.5x7 and ID'd some junk and clad targets. For kicks I tried the 10x14 next and it found em all only much faster. This was a trashy area next to the curb where folks park to go to the park, I would not call it heavy trash but enough to for the big lady to impress me with her performance.

At first I was unsure about it..but then became familiar with where certain coins hit on the screen and how they sounded with it. Then I started popping out 8" coins standing straight on edge! It is a VERY stable coil with good depth and great coverage...and to me it's proved that it loves coins on edge. It also separates extremely well. I love the fact that I can run it very hot and it remains stable. I haven't used my stock coil in the last 4 hunts....and probably won't much at all anymore. Sounds like you have had a similar experience with your 10 x 14 and I feel the same as you do..."it's one smooth coil".
Good luck hunting.

falses and chirps to the point that I hunt only in semi auto sensitivity. I didn't try an explorer 2 coil on my SE but I know others that have...and it did in fact calm down their SE. Since I was needing to get a different coil I opted for the larger excelerator and have been more than pleased with it. I also use the 10 x 14 and love it because it finds me a lot of silver coins on edge and separates very well.
Good luck hunting

got me down. I think I got dehydrated as I got pretty sick for a while and had to park my butt on the couch.

Looks like a spot you should revisit and go slow and listen for those hidden Coins next to Trash. Good Luck and HH next time out.:detecting:

it seems like they do fine for the most part. I believe you are right about a sweet spot on the larger coils.
