Tough Decision

Boy it's been tough choosing which Teknetics model I want to go with. I would like a TID detector to go along with my other two non TID detector. The T2 is nice but more than what I want to spend or should say more than the wife would allow me to spend. I can go higher than what Alpha cost so that leaves the 4000, 6000, or the 8000 for the difference in cost between the 6000 and the 8000 you might as well go for the 8000 and I like the looks of it better with it's buttons being label and the color scheme but then again the lay out of the 4000 is also nice. I guess I need to make up my mind as to if I want manual GB or not

Only if you're compelled to keep two non-display models.

The Alpha is a very basic, low-cost, entry-level unit. It's better than most 'starter' model in that class, but not what you need if you want to be more active in this great sport.

The Delta 4000 is a terrific "turn-on-and-go" model, and not necessarily for only a beginner. I know i am not in that class, but I don't mind grabbing a Delta for some types of fun coin hunting.

If you're trying to narrow your pick down to a versatile model with both Ground Grab automated Ground Balance as well as manual GB, then you need to look at both the Gamma 6000 and Omega 8000. Let me tell you this ... BOTH of these models perform about equal and offer about equal features. The main functions and adjustments of the two are very similar. If you are thinking about adding a 5" DD coil, the $100 saved by buying the Gamma 6000 can be applied toward a great coil.

So, see we can easily narrow the pick down to only two great performing models. i bought my Omega early in the year. If I would have been a little short on funds I would have bought the Gamma and not really regretted it much at all. Both are very competitive in their class, or the class above them.

I owned a Gamma and I currently own a Omega. The Gamma was a little lighter (machine is light as a feather) but I prefer the feel of the pistol grip of the Omega. The Gamma ran hotter but was more suscepible to EMI than the Omega. But the biggest issue with the gamma to me was, I did not like all the push buttons..they are VERY susceptible to getting dirt in behind them and sticking. I much prefer the push pads and rotary knobs of the Omega. Other than that they both performed just about the same. Bill
