Translations and more translations and there is updates upon updates

Pete in MI

New member
I do not understand the need for all the translations that have come out. What guarantees accuracy? To me its like telling the first person in a long line of people a secret that is to be passed on to the next person and when you get to the end the secret is not the same at all.

Or maybe it is like taking a document and you zerox the original and then make a copy off the copy and another copy off the copy etc until...its a blank sheet and can't be read.

Sure some translations make it easier to read for some. NIV seemed to be the 'new' standard in many churches. Guess what...there is an UPDATE out of the NIV. I am confused...if the NIV was accurate - why an update? What changed? Was something wrong? If it were wrong - well - boggles my mind of implications...or is it just another way of making more money from publishing an update for people to buy?

I have heard people say you can't lead someone to Christ using the King James because they do not understand Old English. Then again I have used King James and I got saved and I didn't have to learn Old English to have it revealed to me by the Holy Spirit.

Anyway, here is a link to an article about the new Update to the NIV.

They have to remain Politically Correct you know. It is stupid. In the name of so called PROGRESS.!!!!! It will never end. Me, I'm staying with the NIV that's all. After a while enough IS enough. PERIOD. PEACE:RONB

Give me that old time Religion.!!!!!!! It's good enough for me.!!!!!!!!

I've used the original King James Version, for many years, but actually favor the New King James Version because it's easier to read. I have many Bibles in various versions but one of my favorite is the Jewish Tanakh, which is the Torah, the Kev'im, and the Kethuvim. If you truly wish to read the old testament translated according to the original Hebrew, you'll love the Tenakh. It reads a bit differ- ent than the New King James Version and is, frankly, more accurate and much easier to understand than the original King James Version of God's Word.

It took the Holy Spirit of God putting a thirst for His truth within me to ask, seek and search! I like my KJV....I had a regular Standard Bible which was only like reading a book to me, but with the Holy Spirit He leads me and reveals God's absolute truth to me! Like Pete says, no matter what Bible we have it takes God's Holy Spiritual revelation to open it up and give us the nourishment and refreshment of what we need; otherwise, to the unsaved it is like reading a book that man has written but the Bible is the Best and Greatest Book ever written, for God's Holy Spirit moved God's prophets to write what was given them! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty
