treasure leads

Has anyone ever listed in their local newspapers, help in finding new locating spots or treasure leads. If so can this be helpful and did anyone get any responses.
 
Best luck I've had is when going to someones house to find a lost ring or other item. If you find it, most people will let you hunt the rest of their yard and will sometimes get the neighbors to let you detect as well. Sometimes the local newspaper, especially in small towns, will put a story in the paper about finding the ring and we include our phone number as well as our interest in detecting other places. My friend had a business card made up that mentions locating lost items and this has opened some doors for him. Another thing to do is look at old maps to pinpoint old campgrounds, parks, home sites, etc. that have long been forgotten. HH
