trouble pinpointing target

Hi! Got a new UltraMag Sharpshooter II & am having trouble pinpointing targets! Still find 'em, but, have to dig a bigger hole. Had a "Red Baron" unit w/ a solid coil for 30 yrs & had no trouble PP;ing w/ it. Something 'bout the separated rings on my new unit??? Any suggestions??? BigSquid55

If you are in DISC mode, do the x over the target then zero in in the all metal mode (strongest signal is where your target is) That's where to dig - then use a handheld pinpointer "GarrettPro that's all you need to Know"

If you are talking about in " motion modes". Think of it as climbing a mountain blind-folded. How you can tell when you have peaked is when you start going down the other side. turn around, walk and when you feel like you've peaked and going back down again stop.. Move to the middle of when you started moving down turn 90* and repeat. finding your peak. In the motion modes the detector will beep after the peak of the target. "X" the target and the pinpoint will be in the middle of the beeps. A way to practice this is to have a person put a coin under a news paper in random locations."X" the coin and poke through the newspaper and see how close the pinpoint was. Hope this helps.

Thanks 4 the get back!!! I'll try this before I get a pinpointer. Have seen several negative reviews 'bout these gadgets.

When pinpointing with the Elite 2200 or Pioneer 505, I try to find a tiny "landmark" close to where the target seems to be. I correlate the sound the detector makes with its position relative to the "landmark." I have even placed a golf tee in the soil if there are no "landmarks." I have even moved the tee until when "Xing" the tee in centered when the tone is present. Nine times out of ten, I will get within 1"-2" of the target. Since I normally dig a 4"-5" plug, it is rare that the target is not in or beneath the plug.
