True all metal

I've read somewhere that the Etrac without any discrimination (open screen) is not really in a true all metal screen or mode, is this true?

As far as I know if it is and open screen it sees all metal. Would be interesting to hear from an expert and would be very surprised if it were true. I think that if it hits all the coins you are looking for, Hits on Gold and Silver then not sure what else you are looking for. I know it loves iron and brass so as far as I can tell open screen is all seeing.....

On the E-TRAC, ALL METAL is not a mode, it is a Discrimination Pattern with zero discrimination. As such, it will respond to targets with properties that have been pre-programmed into the ferrous and non-ferrous ranges, 1-35 and 1-50 respectibly. If there are objects with target properties either more ferrous than 35 or more conductive (non-ferrous) than 50, it won't detect them as it was not programmed to identify those properties. I guess what I am saying is, technically, a Pattern with Zero Discrimination is not the same as having a separate and designated All Metal mode. But in the case of the E-TRAC, I've not found that it matters. JMHO HH Randy

I agree with Randy. I think this may, in part, add to why the E-Trac doesn't see small "low" conductors.

Case in point - I was hunting a pasture hilltop where "supposedly" there was an indian lookout there.

At a spot like this you dig everything. There was hardly any sound at all, Ferrous or non. I think we found a few shotgun shells. Well I managed to get a little 12-04 blip. After I opened the plug, I could not for the life of me find the target. Finally the buddy I was hunting with found it. It happened to be a "lead" piece off of the button of a cattle eartag. About twice the size of a BB.

I still couldn't pick it up, even when I had it in my hand...and this is a totally white screen.

NebTrac

NebTrac, what convinced me that notch discriminators using a zero discrimination Pattern would hit on "smaller" rangeof targets compared to a distinct All Metal mode was when I was field testing the initial X-TERRAs. I have a piece of ferrite that would not register on the 70 with zero discrimination. It would not register on the 30 using zero discrimination. But it would register on the 50. Same results I found with the new models, X-705, 505 and 305. Oddly, all of them would register using the All Metal modes. The only thing I could figure out is that the 50 and 505 have a low ferrous reading of -9. The 70 and 705 have their lowest ferrous reading of -8. And the 30 and 305 only go down to a -4. So if the 50 and 505 can hit the ferrous at -9, but the 70 and 705 will not hit it at all in zero discrimination, my theory is due to the lower ferrous capabilities of the 50 and 505. That indicates to me that the notch segments are programmed to respond to a specific range of ferrous or non-ferrous ranges. Since all of the X-TERRAs can hit that same piece of ferrous using All Metal, it also appears that All Metal would have a larger "range" of target recongnition than the zero discrimination Pattern. But as I said, on either the X-TERRAS or the E-TRAC, I can't see that it makes a difference for coins, jewelry, prospecting or relic hunting. JMHO HH Randy

I have 3 small gold pickers ranging from 3 to 9 grains each. Two of the pieces can be detected with the Etrac, but one is completely silent.
Now on my F75 in 0 discrimination I get an audio on all pieces in an air test. I also get about 2+" more distance with the F75.

True All Mettal etrac like explorer- without dicrimination 1 Tone, or on explorers Sounds Constant. I use Constant without discrimination on my explorer for small targets where I need to get best depth and max sensitivity- it works perfect or best what you can achieve from this detectors, still dont know how in the field behaves etrac with Tone 1, but in air test its looks the same like explorer.

Multi verses single and also coil size will make a big difference. The E-Trac is not a prospecting machine and not designed/tuned to perform on tiny gold.

Very interesting.
