Trying to eliminate some foil

Hunting mostly sports fields for jewelry I dig
my share of foil readings. That's also where
most of the rings and jewelry I dig register on
the meter. Only dig those foil signals that lock
on and don't bounce too much. That's still a lot
of digging. Is it possible to whip the coil and
make some of those foil signals disappear and not
loose the signal on most of the good stuff.
Maybe it's only wishful thinking but it seems like
I read it somewhere. But where ?

Not sure about whipping, but a ring will give a more repeatable VDI reading from different angles, wont it. This is from what Ive read - I'm still a newbie - had the MXT less than a week, used a Pioneer 202 before. Though if you dig based on this you may mis irregular shaped jewelry items.

Doesn't the reading indicate Foil/Ring or Ring/Foil? I also rely on discrimination blocks and sound as an indicator. If the reading varies a lot from different directions I usually find foil.
I dig most solid VDI hits from 8-18 if the area is not too trashy. Not sure if there is a fool proof remedy cause as soon as you think you got it right you find someone bragging about that 14 K gold chain they dug that gave irratic readings... <img src="/metal/html/tongue.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":b">

The only thing I can say is that a lot of foil will vary a lot in vdi's. Not much way to disc it out without loosing smaller gold items. As far as whipping the foil out I don't know, nothing like a try.A while back out in my yard I dug tab after tab, all reading +22 vdi. Then I dug a nice little gold wedding band, this also had a +22 vdi. At a school dug a lot of twist tops that came in at 37-40, hit another 37 and don't know why but something said dig, I found the biggest class ring I have ever seen, valued at 33 bucks in scrap gold. Problem is gold and foil all to often fall in the same vdi range, Sounds like your doing about all you can do by digging signals that don't vary much in vdi's. Wish I could be more help.

Yeah, I know what you're saying Johnny B. I dig
everything from 4 to 22 and have come up with
quite a few gold rings like that. Many small
rings coming in at 4 and 6. Rings and trash. Most
sports fields I hit have already been searched
by the coin hunters. Very few coins that's for
sure. That's O.K. with me as long as I keep getting
the gold on a regular basis. I appreciate your

Just digging the repeatable VDI numbers you still
end up with quite a bit of trash. Not complaining
because if the rings are there, and they usually
are, I will get my share. The sports fields I
really like to hunt are those that have very few
coins. Rather keep up the search for gold jewelry
than to dig coins. Only hunt modern fields so an old coin
would be a rare find.
So I go for the gold jewelry. Comes out of the ground nice and clean.
You just gotta like that. Good luck with your new MXT John. You are just
getting started on an adventure with a great machine.

Thanks Ray. Guess I was looking for some kind of
magic fix that would get the gold and leave the foil.
Well, one can always hope. I use a gallon antifreeze
container to put my trash and coins in and it isn't
uncommon to have it about half full after about 3
hours. And like you said many rings hit right on the
same ID as trash. Have the rings to back that up too.
Guess I will just keep digging all signals with
a fairly steady VDI reading. Will keep experimenting though.
Who knows I might come up with something.
If I do I will be sure and post it here.
