'Twas another beautiful day in the neighborhood! I went to a park where I haven't been...

for quite awhile...I only detected 8 times all of 2004...I've beat that already this year! Even though I have a problem with the detector or headphones (shorting out I believe) I searched in the sunshine with some cool wind blowing & found 31-Quarters, 6-Dimes, 4-Nickels & 10-Pennies for a total of 51 Coins in the amt of $8.65.
Nothing else...and with so few small coins, I really think there's a short someplace, as the detector is falsing a lot and not IDing as it should, even the sound isn't that great when pinpointing. I have a summer pair of headphones from KOSS and will use them instead of my winter KOSS headphones next time to see if they are the problem! If not then may have to have the detector checked out, especially if it gets any worse! I do have a spare, a White's 6000DI Series III, but like my Spectrum much better!
Hope you all had a great day and were able to get out doors and do something! The Lord bless you and keep you in His loving care!

wish I found over $5 on each of my trips out but rarely do. Still trying to figure out where everyone is losing their money - obviously not where I have been <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
Congrats Betty on your finds and breaking your 2004 record - keep it up.

I had a White's 6000 DI Pro, it was a really good machine, then I went to the Whites DFX, and now today the Minelab EX2.

are able to get out and do a lot of MD'ing! The more you get out the more you will find! Kids lose money & other stuff! Go to schools & parks...many different ones until you find where more coins are to be found!
Sometimes I get skunked & probably will as soon as I hunt these places a few times! I've almost depleted the private school grounds, so will have to wait for awhile to find any more lost coins &/or items! Talked to a guy who was looking at the dirt on the ballfields and asked him where he got all that dirt, as I couldn't see where they were digging any. He said he ordered it! Well, the parks & other schools must be getting the same dirt from somewhere, as it looks like the same dirt piled up on the grounds & ballfields wherever I've been lately!
I hope the problem is my headphones & not my detector! I've been having trouble with the toggle switch sticking once in awhile & that is aggravating!
If it's my headphones will be much cheaper to fix! <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">
The expense of shipping, repairing & returning my detector gets rather high! I think I've had it since 1994 or 95...will have to check when I purchased it.
It's paid for itself! I don't buy detectors very often & I haven't never sold any or traded them in for another. Just like my coins & STUFF I hang onto everything! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
I hope you remember where you went & can go again! I prayed and asked the Lord to give you a dream & show you where it is and what the highway or town's name is that's closest to the place! I hope He does, but if not....maybe He'll help you remember some other way!
God Bless & HH!

Yes, they still have plenty of power....10.6 or? They stay on that for quite some time before dropping to 9 or lower. But they did corrode the pack in just a week or two after detecting at a school last summer. I couldn't figure that one out, as they weren't even that old! So now I take the battery pack out after I detect each time! I cleaned the contacts as best I could, even using an emery board but couldn't get all the corrosion. They were just fine until the last 2 or 3 times I've been out.
I will need to see about getting a new pack for the Alkaline AA's I use. I had a rechargeable pack a couple of times, but they finally quit working! Then I decided to just buy the Alkaline AA's and use them instead! I've had my Spectrum since 1994 or 95!
I haven't looked inside the pack so may do that to see if they are ok. They were before when I looked & checked them! Just put new ones in about three weeks ago! I still think it's either the detector or my headphones! I lean over a lot with a hip mount (chest) & the wires touch my legs, so I may have done something to either one or both!
Thank you for your suggestion!
God Bless!

the depth most are getting with it is outstanding for the relics and old coins, but I wouldn't want to dig down to 16 inches or whatever, as I wear out too fast... <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

Yes Betty,
I've found quite alot of coins with this machine. There was one time I borrowed the original Minelab EX XS and found a silver dime at about 9" down. The Minelab has 28 frequencies that work simultaneously. It is a great machine. I myself will never go back to the other machines I've had. I'm actually sold on the Minelab EX2.
Russ <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

I've traded detectors many times. Most bought on eBay. Some worked - some didn't. Have a member of the club who sells detectors and he allowed me to trade up even using the defective ones as trades.
He even allowed me to trade one machine directly for another - although he wanted an additional $90 I didn't have, he still let me do the trade. A good Christian man.
I have 2 machines now. One has done me well in the past couple years but is technically behind the one I now have and it too isn't the newest on the market but in some ways better than the first. Though of selling one of them as I want to buy some things (new coil for the other one) but the newer pone doesn't have all the features that the older one has so I am sacrificing depth to keep the features. Or gain depth with the newer one without the extra features. Tough call sometimes when I want to go out detecting as to which one to use. (I take both just in case one quits working). So hate to sell either of them.
Thinking maybe I should sell my detecting library a book at a time to get the coil I want. Or sell everything to get an even better detector but then I would have none. Tough decisions. Probably never will get the coil unless I find a nice ring to sell like I did once before.
Oh well all in due time.

I drool over the thought of it but alas finances are overly tight. Even buying a newer coil for one of the machines isn't within my budget lately.
Still dreaming though so I'm not dead from the neck up <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
Glad you are getting out and getting to know the EX 2 better.

sometimes the wire that leads into the headphones will start to get bad!

...you had a busy day and did purty good, bad headphones and all!! <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
I have permission to hunt Brians school playground area as soon as I can get him interested in going. Now that I am employed and have our trip behind us, I can try to schedule a day of detecting. I hope to recover those lost bracelets for my neighbors too!
Have a great day, Betty! And.......God Bless!!!

read on the other forums that the contacts inside where the battery pack goes can get closed & by carefully using a bent thin clothes hangar a person can bring them back up to where they work properly! And another is the loop cover can get filled up with sand & etc & cause a lot of false signaling, so I have these two things to check out along with the headphones! I did notice I had sand coming out of the loop cover when I shook it yesterday! I had been over a sandy volleyball court with nothing found at all but probably loaded up my coil cover!
It is nice to read about problems and the answers given to solve them! Others have been through different ones before and have found the answers & therefore can pass on the help to those who need it!
Thank you Mike as sometimes I forget things...in fact most of the time I forget things! <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D"> <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">

like I said, I would tire out too fast digging that deep & also don't have any way to get to places where they are that deep & digging deep holes in parks might cause problems with no more detecting in them!
I try to be careful in filling holes, keeping the trash picked up and to show no signs I've been there, but sometimes because of soil conditions (when too dry or too wet) that is difficult to do!
Good luck though to you & may you find some more silver & gold goodies!
The mystery of what anyone might find is always uplifting to the treasure hunter, so the chase is more exciting then the finds most of the time!

Your welcome, Pete! But don't give up on the detector &/or coil you desire, as God meets the desires of our heart! Just be humble in prayer & thank Him for what you do have and you will see what He will do for you!
Keep being patient & kind.....gentle as a dove & as wise as a serpent.....for our God is an awesome God and there's nothing too small or too big for Him to do for His Child! Hang in there & ask Jesus to help you!
There are times when I'm really sick or just down in the valley and all I can do is say, Help me, Jesus! He hears & He answers & then I'm feeling better & I'm back upon the mountain top! Praise God & thank you, Jesus! If we didn't praise Him the rocks would rise up & give Him praise! He enters into the praises of His people!
There were ten lepers healed, but only one returned to thank Jesus. I often wonder if the nine kept their healing or if satan caused them to be lepers again? Because that is the way the old devil is!
Like I said, Keep faith & your desires will be met!
God Bless & HH!

Betty,
The mystery of the hunt is the research about a place. To find out where people have congregated for centuries. In my area, Decatur, IL, I find myself fascinated by just knowing I've set foot on a place that once stood a log cabin. That's where the thrill of the hunt lies. For me that is. Some people might not agree with me on that. But that's okay, because everybody has there own opinion on whether they like to do the research or not.
Once I know of a spot where people have congregated, I make my move and voila, a coin hunters paradise. I guess I love the challenge. I hope I don't sound too boastful.

have success in finding the older stuff! I have in the past with my former husband went to out of the way places! My son-in-law knew of several! But we were beginners and our detectors weren't like the ones for today, so only found mostly trash, iron, horse-shoes & such! Never had time to go back....so hunted only once when we could! The old school house and farm areas are so over-grown & brushy with blackberry bushes, thorns & etc that it isn't pleasant to work there, especially in the hot weather with danger of snakes, bugs & ticks!
Since you have the thrill of researching first, I hope you do find lots of places and lots of good STUFF!
I don't have a hunting partner any more and being older that's just not my cup of tea these days! <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
But happy hunting & God Bless!

I had to take some tablets to clear it up. Then I ended up with it again. That time I just let it run its course. It seems once you've had it several times you start to build an immunity for it. I got tired of going to the Doctor.
