Hi all,
take a look at the TWIGGY project on www.pulsdetector.de
hauptmenu->project->twiggy
seems more complicated and more powerful.
And its appearance reveals some common commands that are in more complex and expensive (like the pulsestar or lorentz) commercial pi !
But what about performance here ?
Does anyone know anything about HOW DEPTH it could (really) go ?

Look at Twiggy, he uses an Atmel to generate the timing like digger. You could dispense with the Atmel PIC and take the timing circuitry from Tiny and put it on Twiggy. No need for software for those not familiar with programming the PIC processors. This would probably make a pretty nice detector.

PS, I also noticed the VCO was being fed by an optoisolator. Exactly what advantage is he gaining with this?
 
Charles, The VCO frequency is not synchronous with the pulse frequency of the detector. This very often causes severe noise problems. The opto isolator helps to isolate the VCO from the rest of the circuitry. Older, less sensitive designs were far less prone to this problem than modern designs.
I really like the design of the Tiny. It seems to be very well thought out. The other designs are also very interesting. Seems to me that Germany must have some very fine engineers who are interested in PI detectors. These guys are no amateurs. The work they are presenting is first rate.

I was looking at the Twiggy design and noticed that he is using a HPCL 7840 opto Isolated amplifier as a front-end. That's what I found most different from other designs I have seen before.
Also noticed that he has a new project button called DTwiggy,which should be a discrimation version of Twiggy. (Not working yet)
