TWO ring day with DE LEON

Got out for a short hunt today, very cold and windy. First stop was a old park along the river lots of targets but all junk. The park used to be houses but a flood took them all out.. most of the targets are pieces of metal from these houses you can dig all day and find very few coins or anything worth keeping. I keep hoping to find jewelry that got washed out of some of those house but no such luck. Next stop was the local high school I found one small silver ring there earlier this year. I had dug for about twenty minutes and had a handful of clad when I I hit a solid 95 silver target that jumped to zinc and tab when I passed the coil over it which was a strange reading as most coins do not read this way. I cut a small plug and the minute I looked in the hole there was ring number one a huge men's silver and black hills gold ring with a onyx stone with a eagle in the center. My oldest son was with me and he heard me woohoo and he knew what that meant and came running he was very impressed, even though I have two detectors my boys are not very interested in detecting any more they are at the age where dirt fishing is not cool but they still go with me to hang out with me so I am happy to have the company. Anyway I gave him the ring to hang onto so he went back to what he was doing laying in the grass hiding from the wind and and getting warmed by the sun. When the wind died down a bit it was actually not to bad out but 40 degrees and 30 mph wind makes it cold quick. I told him we could leave now as I found a ring and figured that was as good as I was going to do for the day and we would call it a day at noon. After a few more coins I moved to the base of some trees nearby first hit I got was foil/nickel reading with very low value jumping back and forth between the two at 0 to 15 which usually means a small piece of foil but as I have learned in my air tests small gold rings are often hiding in that range. I poked around with my pick and hit something solid and out popped a nice little 10k woman's gold ring. I let out another woohoo and my son came to see ring and was almost as excited as I was two ring days are few and far between unless you hunt beaches and since I am landlocked I have not hit many beaches except at a local lake with not much luck........I will post pictures as soon as I can get a decent photo as my last ones were terrible anyway hope you enjoyed the story thanks for reading......................KEEP LOOKING DOWN! That's great.:beers:

Like you said, the only two gold ring day I've had was at a fresh water beach.

I did not know one of the rings was gold for about a month until I tested
the stone and discovered it was a small diamond. Then after I cleaned it
a little, I could see the 10k gold hallmark. Both rings had small diamonds.

It's exciting to pull gold out of the ground.

Very smart, the way you IDed those rings.

HH,

That's great Phinbolt!

Perhaps you could give me hunting advice?

How did you get your son to go out MD with you?

Mine have seen how they can work well, but I've never been able to get them interested for more than a few minutes.

I had once figured they, or my wife would be interested in the computer screen of the garrett ace, but no go...

Maybe next I could try a really difficult machine to operate with very fancy computer screen????

They sure like video games and cell phones.

How old is your your son? The best way I got them to go with me the first few times was to take them to a place where they can find a lot of clad and let them keep everything they find. My youngest is 15 his first find a couple of years ago was a 1950 silver quarter so he was real excited so he will hunt once in a while. My oldest is 17 he dosn't like to hunt but he likes to spend time with me so he will go just to hang out. I told him after I found those ring that he was my good luck charm as I have found rings a couple of times that he ws with me. He said he will beach hunt when we go to the local lakes this year.

Great hunt phinbolt thanks for the info, as tabdog mentioned interesting way with the reading 0 - 15. Were did you say you set your discm.
