TWO YEARS AFTER THE TRAGEDIES OF 9/11/2001

A man from Norfolk , VA called a local radio station to share this on Sept 11th, 2003, TWO YEARS AFTER THE TRAGEDIES OF 9/11/2001.

His name was Robert Matthews. These are his words:

A few weeks before Sept. 11th, my wife and I found out we were going to have our first child. She planned a trip out to California to visit her sister. On our way to the airport, we prayed that God would grant my wife a safe trip and be with her. Shortly after I said 'amen,' we both heard a loud pop and the car shook violently. We had blown out a tire. I replaced the tire as quickly as I could, but we still missed her flight. both very upset, we drove home. I received a call from my father who was retired NYFD. He asked what my wife's flight number was, but I explained that we missed the flight. My father informed me that her flight was the one that crashed into the southern tower. I was too shocked to speak. My father also had more news for me; he was going to help. 'This is not something I can't just sit by for; I have to do something.'

I was concerned for his safety, of course, but more because he had never given his life to Christ. After a brief debate, I knew his mind was made up. Before he got off of the phone, he said, 'take good care of my grandchild. Those were the last words I ever heard my father say; he died while helping in the rescue effort. My joy that my prayer of safety for my wife had been answered quickly became anger. I was angry at God, at my father, and at myself. I had gone for nearly two years blaming God for taking my father away. My son would never know his grandfather, my father had never accepted Christ, and I never got to say good-bye. Then something happened. About two months ago, I was sitting at home with my wife and my son, when there was a knock on the door. I looked at my wife, but I could tell she wasn't expecting anyone. I opened the door to a couple with a small child. The man looked at me and asked if my father's name was Jake Matthews. I told him it was. He quickly grabbed my hand and said, 'I never got the chance to meet your father, but it is an honor to meet his son.'

He explained to me that his wife had worked in the World Trade Center and had been caught inside after the attack. She was pregnant and had been caught under debris. He then explained that my father had been the one to find his wife and free her. My eyes welled up with tears as I thought of my father giving his life for people like this. He then said, 'there is something else you need to know.'
His wife then told me that as my father worked to free her, she talked to him and led him to Christ. I began sobbing at the news. Now I know that when I get to Heaven, my father will be standing beside Jesus to welcome me, and that this family would be able to thank him themselves . When their baby boy was born, they named him Jacob Matthew, in honor of the man who gave his life so that a mother and baby could live.

This story should help us to realize this: God is always in control. We may not see the reason behind things, and we may never know this side of heaven, but God is ALWAYS in control. Please take time to share this amazing story. You may never know the impact it may have on someone. God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His love endures Forever. Psalm 136:1

What a story and the love of God and His mercy was all in it for your dad and the wife and soon-to-be baby he saved from death! God sure does miraculous things and that was sure a miracle in itself! Saving your wife from being on the flight out of Calif. and both of you from crashing from a blow out and being able to enjoy your child with them not being killed on 9/11! Then, your father was saved while helping to save another expecting mother from death and although he died, it was a miracle!

Here is another story how a father and his daughter were saved from being on a California flight when they were waiting to come back to St. Louis after visiting his sister in a nursing home out there! My sister-in-law Wanda is a very devout Christian and has suffered a lot by suicides and deaths in her and our family. My nephew Tyson took his own life at the age of 19 thirteen years before my brother, Larry, her husband, took his own life in 2007...in the same month of August. Her brother died from a brain tumor in 1988 or 1989! Since then both her mother and father have passed away after taking care of them in her and Larry's home before Larry took his life!

In 2001, she was with her dad flying to California and back, but they closed the airport before their plane took off! Her dad needed a wheelchair to get out of the airport quickly, so they were the last ones to leave by the time one was found for him to use! She had called and called car-rental agencies to get a car to drive back to St. Louis, but everyone else had already taken most of them. She finally was able to get one farther away by her and her father taking a cab and renting an older one, which she drove to a city out west, can't remember which one or which state, where she turned in the rental and got a better one that was easier to drive with less gas use! She drove to another city closer to St. Louis and Larry took their car and drove to meet her and then they drove on home together, Wanda, Larry and her dad. She was sooooo glad and happy to be home and safe! Of course, Larry was glad to have his wife and father-in-law safely home, also!

God protects His people and although some He takes home in the line of their duty or some other way by saving someone else, He still knows what He is doing for our good and for His purpose! Amen!

Once a preacher, his son and his son's friend all went boating and were caught in a storm! The boat overturned and the father chose to save his son's friend from drowning instead of his son! People asked him later why he didn't save his son instead as most of us would do! Well, the preacher father said that his son was saved and he knew he would see him again someday, but the son's friend wasn't, so he gave him an opportunity to be saved before it is forever too late! Now, that is like our Heavenly Father, Who gave His only begotten Son's life in the place of ours, so that we might be saved! What a wonderful God, our Father, to do that for every lost sinner and giving us a chance to be saved and be with Him forever more! Praise God and Thank You, Jesus! Amen!

God works in mysterious ways, too, and sent the family that your father helped save to thank you for all that he had done for them and to show you His great love for you, your family and your father! God Bless! Betty

Salvation is for every man. Some it would seem wait until the very last miniute to accept the gift.

All part of GOD's plan
