TX Pulse and Flyback

I also figured this would wind up here. Here is my take on it.

In school we were introduced to transformers by doing an experiment. We used a 120v primary and 12.6v secondary transformer. The primary was connected to a 1.5v battery through a vibrator, a self cycling relay, that provided about 30 cycles per minute. So the relay was closed for one second then open for one second. A scope was connected to the secondary across a resistor.

When the battery was applied to the primary, we would see a voltage induced in the secondary that started high and fell to zero. When the battery was removed, we would see another, much higher, voltage on the secondary that again fell to zero. The fall on the removal was much sharper than the fall on application.

We learned that the magnetic field collapse was the cause of the voltage spike on the secondary when the battery was removed.

We also observed the voltage on the primary and found that it was much higher than the secondary voltage on removal of the battery.

Now, it seems that some people want to tell us that the cause of the voltage on the secondary was really due to the emf induced in the primary on removal of the battery.

Sorry, but I did not buy that in 2001 and still don't buy it today.

And yes the combination of the PI coil and a target are simply a transformer.
