Uh Oh, Fall is half over and no new Garrett machine yet:rage:

Well my fellow Garrett users,
I'm still waiting in great anticipation for a new Garrett whatever it will be, hopefully a new Top of the line machine. In my head I design a new Garrett machine and what I would like and if I had better skills with Photoshop I would do a full render of a new Garrett machine in a mockup graphic of it. Kinda like Apple fans of iPods do with a new models coming out, they will do a mockup of what they might see Apple doing or what they would want....Any of you out there in detectorland can do that and make it look real? That would be kool. I might could do it of I had a boat load of time, but I dont. It woud be kool though.

Well my vision is something like this...

Top of the line:
A screen like these new touch phones have, maybe have touch feature. (tempered glass?)
Color screen
New imaging that would be able to see what the item looks like under ground or it basic shape, in color, at depth. (like fish finder but better)
Adjustable frequency from 7-15khz. (Adjustable not Multiple)
Mulitple frequncys if no adjustable feature
a little lighter weight (not big deal for me)
Even deeper All Metal
Adjustable dicrimination amount or adjustable preset disc.
Deeper discrimination detecting
Could actually use GTI 2500 housing with new screen in there. (prob would prefer all new housing design)
Coils that would work with all these adjustable freqencies without having to change coil for another freq.

Scorpion:
Put it in the GTI 1500 or GTP 1350 housing
and update it as Garrett sees fit.
Make it all Black also.

Infinium:
Give us prospectors a dry land only version to shut up these water detectorist saying that it is broke or doesnt work right in the surf, and then give it a negitive rating. (Duh, it was designed as a prospecting machine)
Now with the land version give it more POWER to compete with Minelab.
Garrett is limited in how much it can do with it because all the bitching Garrett gets about it from the Surf detectorist. (geez, just get a Sea Huner and shut up) They cant make it too powerful or more sensitive or it wont work AT ALL in the surf. Whites TDI now has the edge and sales for prospecting...is unfortuate, for such a great machine ( infinium).

Ace 250:
Is perfect!!

There it is my Garrett brothers and sisters...Have it all in my head and cant wait to see them...haha.
Happy hunting, as usual.

Fall ends December 20th:unsure: what will we see before Christmas? Oh, I hope something, has been a long wait.

... Garrett is due for another round of phone calls!

I dreamed like this once, Alan.... and Garrett was flooded with calls about their NEW detector!

With my dirty fingers all over it. Not such a good idea....

New imaging that would be able to see what the item looks like under ground or it basic shape, in color, at depth. (like fish finder but better) Now that would be nice...
Adjustable frequency from 7-15khz. (Adjustable not Multiple)**
Not feasible
Multiple frequencies if no adjustable feature
Feasible
Adjustable dicrimination amount or adjustable preset disc.
Doesn't it have that, now?
Deeper discrimination detecting
Doable, to a point

** Coils that would work with all these adjustable frequencies without having to change coil for another freq.
Here is where it gets impractical. VLF detectors are induction field instruments, that is they set up an electromagnetic field around the coil. When metal comes into the field, they respond to the phase shift it creates within the field.

The induction field is created around a frequency-tuned antenna (coil), designed to create the largest field possible at a given frequency. If you change the frequency, but not the antenna's length (windings) accordingly, your field strength diminishes drastically.
So, to change the frequency, you would have to change the antenna so it is tuned to the new freq.
You CAN use harmonic derivatives of a frequency and use the same coil, like Whites and Minelab does. Or, you can use different coils to accommodate various, discrete frequencies, also like Minelab does in their Xterra series.

What I always wanted on a detector is that the stock coil or bigger ones had the option of becoming a sniper coil: for example, if you are hunting with the 12.5 coil, a switch on the panel that activated only the 4.5 inner coil of the 12.5., That way we could stop switching coils when the ground becomes too trashy in some areas. Well just my dream.

Man, you sure aren't asking for much Alan.
I think you just put their production schedule
behind about 3 years !
Good hunting to you ! Gene

How about a backlit screen?
You would want to be able to turn it off, though.

Yeah I've been hounding them to revamp the Scorpion forever. Don't look for a new Garrett till about Spring of next year unless they get a real burst of energy.

Bill

Probably nothing until spring or next fall. I was expecting an announcement to coincide with the latest "Searcher."

You have some good ideas many of which I share. Fish finder imaging sounds cool but expensive. I'd pay for it though.

Chris

Let's see. Ground penetrating radar, color 3D touch screen, 20 hour battery life, and cost no more than an Ace 250. If you're going to dream, dream big!

The discrimination is only preset amout from factory like the GTI 2500. Some detectors out there can adjust the amout of preset discrimination, in addition to notching out different metals. Like a preset ground balance with slight adjustability for more sensitivity and depth.

There was either a post about it here or a video link that covered a bit of a history of Garrett machines. I think that it was done with some of the early BFO machines. The coils wouldn't have been as small as the sniper coil, but they were set up for the very reason that you put forward.

just wandering if we got a detector that showed you what was there before you dug it,would we be as excited about going out ???...getting the surprise that you get when you uncover your item is what it is about for me, it is a lot like fishing which is another Passion of mine you know you are going to catch a fish when you get a bite but what sort is known when you land it,, I get a kick out of calling the items before I see them, have been getting about a 60% strike rate on that, is it all about the finds or the experience

I have a hunch that the name MASTER HUNTER will be part of the new Garrett machine. Just a hunch. Perhaps Garrett will Go back to their roots. What if the electronics and batteries where housed in a design that looked like the meter that was built into the handle of the Grand Master Hunter series. Nice lightweigt, compact, telescopic design like Garretts new Mine detector. You never know?
