Ultrasonic Cleaners, any info would be great...:detecting:

I was wondering, has anybody ever used, or owned a Ultrasonic Cleaner? I'm thinking of getting one, ebay has this one for about $40. Does it work, is it worth it? I was out detecting today, and finally "dug up" (not just surface hunting anymore) a few modern coins, and they are in terrible shape. I don't think a bank will take them. I washed them in warm water, but its caked on, not just mud, but like calcium or something. If this is going to be the norm. I need a way to clean my finds.

Maybe not this speecific model, but if I do get one I want to keep it around $40 - $50.

Use a tumbler for your coins that you are taking back to the bank.

Ultrasonic cleaners are good for find detailed cleaning. They are slow, but work great on jewelry. If something is plated, it can take the plating off.
 
I've got one and I don't really use it. My wife uses it to clean some of her jewelry, but old crusted on stuff will not come off.

I am going to make an electrolysis system using a power adapter, alligator clips, a stainless steel spoon and a glass. I read on this website how to do it and I am going to give it a shot.
 
I used to use a home made electrolysis system for crusted roman coins. That worked good but I want to clean more than 1 coin at a time. I do have a double barrel rock tumbler, I do rock tumbling too :rofl: What do you use in the tumbler to clean coins, would BB's work??? You know I think I remember reading somewhere that if you tumble coins to do pennies separately, and all the clad and nickles together, any truth to that??? Something about the copper wears off the penny and turns all of the change copper plated, or something like that...
 
I bought one to clean a barber dime I found. After hours and hours it looked the same.
