Hey, play nice. No personal insult posts. He has been around the block a few times. Show some respect newbie.:nono:

With all respect I think I know what Bill is saying. I looked up all your posts here and most all are about the 250 vs 1500. I saw where Bill responded like 6 to 8 times on this subject along with many other people. You can't sit on the fence forever. Both detectors will find stuff. It seems like money is not the problem so you could buy both and sell the one you don't like. Maybe you'll end up keeping both? You'll never know until you whip out the cash. Good luck.

If you are interested in buying a metal detector you can not go wrong buying a Garrett. The folks on this forum are very, very helpful. There are a few questions that get asked a lot and a few topics that are done too often. Should I clean my coins before bringing them to the bank? Should I sell my gold rings? What is the difference between higher and lower end Garrett machines? How to pinpoint with the 250. With just a little digging you could find answers to all these questions going back a month or two. Nobody can answer the question which detector should I buy except for you.

My experience was that I got really lucky when I was buying a new machine after my Bounty Hunter started acting up and was pointed toward an Ace 250. It was purely chance. I was going to buy another Bounty Hunter. In just a few days I realized how much better the hobby was going to be with my new rig. I hunted with it about 5 times a week for 3 months and found over 1000 bucks worth of stuff. My birthday present to myself was a 2500GTI. I like it much better than the Ace 250 but I could do very serious detecting, and find a ton of stuff, with either machine. I almost never hunt with my Ace 250 anymore. It gets loaned out quite a bit, though, and almost everybody offers to buy it..

My friend who shoots competitive archery gave me a great analogy. He has an $800 bow. He routinely shoots and wins competitions with it and can score 290-295 of a possible 300 points consistently. He bought a $3000 bow and has since shot a lot more perfect scores than ever. It took the better bow to take him to the next level but he was a very good archer before he got the new bow. The 2500GTI, and I assume the 1500, will outperform the ACE250. How much better a higher end machine performs will depend largely on the operator.

Chris

Here is a suggestion. Buy an Ace250. When you find close to the cost of a higher end Garrett machine in coins, jewelry etc..... Think about buying a second machine. 1. It never hurts to have a spare detector. 2. You will be able to easily switch to a more feature packed machine with more experience. 3. If you get good with the 250 you will be very good with the higher end machine and will be able to take better advantage of the better performance.

Finally. If you are going to hunt beaches or heavy alkali soil you might consider a machine with salt elimination or manual ground balance. I know the 2500GTI does both and I think the 1500 does as well.

I am new and I respect everyones opinion whether its right or wrong. Its an opinion , just respect it.I hope that you get a great garrett machine and you find everything and more. Good luck and Very HAPPY hunting.:garrett:
