Great info Clive,

I discovered some time ago that I was too greedy with my pulse delay (Goldquest and Sea Hunter)....and it cost me dearly.

I would stubbornly keep it below 15

Hi Tony
Ya, it's a tough call how to smooth these machines out without loosing depth. I know for sure that the GQA2 is deeper way down towards 10 uSc but it's just so noisy. It also hits too many flyspecks. Also with these powerhouse machines like the TDI, when you go way down, the ripples and past ferrous digs sound off. I've gotten good results with my Aqua up at around 10:00. This gives you some leeway as to where you want to run the SAT. Bill Lahr suggested that the solution is just to slow the coil down with the slower settings.
A big part of success with pulse machines is recognizing that they are not invincible and not being afraid to run some Gain. OMHO it's the lesser conductors (iron) that will be more readily knocked out.
