Unforgettable Park Hunt! :surprised:

Yesterday will go down in history as being one of the most successful hunts I've ever had on public ground - I'm still having trouble believing it!

Started out detecting in a familiar area of the park, using a deep relic program with the Deus that basically turns it into a Beep-and-Dig machine that will pull coins from 9-10" deep...in badly mineralized ground.

First coin was a sharp 1926 S Mercury dime, it turns out that this is a fairly rare date. Mike and I have had great luck with early Mercury dimes found that are VF or better condition - he still has the trophy from last year...a 1921 D Mercury dime in XF condition!

Went on to find two Indian cents, dated 1893 and 1895 - both coins still show full lettering and sharp details. These coins were one foot from each other at the 8-9" mark. We took a break from digging trash after a while, got a bite to eat, and then went back at it.

I decided to search an area of the park that I've never touched before - which turned out to be the right decision! First coin after the break was a 7-inch-deep 1941 Mercury dime, two feet away out came a 1916 S Wheat at about 8". Two steps away I got a "silvery" signal on the Deus, while running 4kHz; and pulled two Mercury dimes from the same hole from the 8" mark. I was very excited at this point...filled the hole, and then took one swing to the right to get a large, steady hit indicating "85-86" - still running 4kHz.

Mike came over and checked the signal with his Fisher Coinstrike - a 20-year old obscure detector that IDs coins as good as a CTX even at 9" deep, and much better than the Deus at depth. It was reading "half dollar" solidly, with a little wavering, while the Deus IDed the target as a "solid quarter signal...maybe silver"

Got down to the target and I brushed away a little dirt to see a large silver rim! First thought was a Standing Liberty quarter, brushed away more dirt to see it was definitely NOT a quarter. Had to run to the car to get the root saw, and seconds later I was staring at my first Barber Half EVER found, an 1893 O variety! Quite possibly my best coin find....to date!

very impressive finds you got there ! love that half.:surprised:

One heck of a hunt...:beers:

Hard to believe how many detector coils have been over those poor coins, waiting all this time to be rescued from 'dirt jail'. ;)

Well done,
:)

Killin it CZ! is this the same park you been attacking for some time now? Man that place just keeps on giving.....

Nice

You better hope the ground doesn't freeze solid out there. You are on quite a nice roll. Good hunting bud, love those Barber halves. HH jim tn

How fantastic is that, a real day to remember.

Woohoo! Way to go CZ! Very happy for you!!!! Got to be a small gold coin out there somewhere...hope you find it!!!

WOW
Now that's what I would call a GREAT hunt.
Congrats

I think that I saw that you have switched from the 9" coil to the 11". how come? you hunt trashy places so I would think that the 9" would be a bit better at separation than the 11". did you tweak your programs to go to the 11"?

I used the 9" coil for several months and did very well with it - was able to dig 8-9" coins in our ground, but I've found that the 11" coil adds a little something extra - can't quite put my finger on it besides it covering more ground and being a tad deeper. Also think that 4kHz works better with the larger coil as well

Kicking ass and taking names aren't you. Great day Good for you

Very nice finds.

After a hunt like that,,,I would have to pinch myself,,,to make sure I wasn't dreaming.lol

Congrats

Sweet silver. That lock is sweet.
