uni probe

Hello Coral01, I see the number 570 in there.

I don't think that Detector Pro Uniprobe has a model with that number...

Vibraprobe 570 is a pinpointer probe...
Is this what you're after ?

I bought a Vibraprobe 570 from Kellyco in April this year,
it cost me $170.00 US.delivered to my home in Melbourne.
It would be a bit cheaper than this for a probe only, as I included a detecting pouch as well.:ausflag:

That's still cheaper than the Pocket UniProbe Snowy. It cost me AUD$418 delivered a couple of years back.

Mick our dollar is way stronger than when you bought your Pocket UniProbe,
I have just ordered, and paid for a Pocket UniProbe ~ total cost is $335.70 Au delivered...

My Vibraprobe 570 cost around $180.00 Au in April this year... Delivered

I have a Sunray X1 which is great, but I want to use a probe with my X-Terra, Tejon and
Explorer SE. Plus I have a bad right shoulder, and detector weight is an issue for me.
I sold my Wot to Lazyaussie as I found it a bit much at the beach.
I have tried bungies, but even the inertia from left to right takes its toll.
I'm gettin' to be a bit of an old phart !!!

I ordered the Pocket UniProbe because I don't need another pair of headphones !
I have a pair of Rats, plus Sunray Pro golds, Koss TD80's, Fisherphones ~ ( original reds.)
Plus a couple of pairs of custom built phones I made... Got enough phones !!!
Mick, I have heard complaints regarding the speaker on to Pocket Uni, how do you like the speakers ?
# I saw a post by GaryL, he uses his with a little set of Ipod speakers.

Oh, I recently bought a Vibraprobe 570 from the States, Wifey dear wanted a probe for her Cibola after
using MY 570 on our last trip up country...:look:

This opened the gate for me to get my Uniprobe !:clapping::devil:

Now the 570 is a great probe, it detects a coin @ 1" to 1 1/2" which is fine for a pinpointer,
BUT where I go up the bush to the old drop zones the ground is packed hard, I can acheive a pinpoint earlier
in the dig because of the extra depth capability of the Uniprobe, I see this as an advantage.
Also when getting a coin up from under lawn or turf, I have read where the Uniprobe gives a person a pinpoint
at good depth BEFORE the actual plug cutting/digging starts...
With the 570 you have to be already down in the soil before you can pinpoint...
Unless the target is very shallow.

Anyway mate, I'd better shut up !!! Heh heh.

Sorry about the yak yak attack !:detecting:

G'day Snowy.
I hear you on the shoulder problem. I've got some dodgy discs in my neck and they are letting me know that they are there at the moment. It could have an influence on my next detector buy. I was considering an MXT, but might get the X-Terra 70 instead. I bought a GTI 1500 a couple of months back, but don't like it that much, so I'll use it as a trade in.
Good luck with the Pocket probe. Great little unit. It is a little bulky to carry around, but very handy. A word of warning on it though. DON'T mount it on your belt. The centre connector is very weak, and if mounted on your belt, which seems to be the most logical place to put it, the sideways pressure put onto it when you use it to find a target, will eventually break it. It looks the same as the connection on a CB radio. I contacted the fellow I bought it from, who in turn contacted Detector Pro (very prompt), and they suggested hardwiring the coil directly to the motherboard. It will work fine if you mount it on a front pocket or have a finds pouch that you can keep it in (which is what I do now). I have detected a $2 coin at 4in. That was my deepest. It was a very faint signal. Since I got a mate to resolder the coil, directly onto the mother board, I have lost some depth. I re soldered it again my self a few months back, but didn't do a good job.
Cheers.
Mick Evans.

Mick, thanks for the warning ! ~ And I get what you're saying.

Tell me, I have a strong ~ light little square bag I was intending to use for the probe...
It has a strong nylon loop at the top, I was just thinking if I attach a clip to this loop,
and clip this clip to a belt loop on my jeans; the whole assembly will swing...

Would this be enough to prevent too much load being applied to the BNC coil fitting ?

Another thing comes to mind. ~ I could use a split flexible plastic washer sort of like a bread tie.
Twist it so it goes around the coil lead, and place a cable tie on the coil lead above this washer.
The washer would pull against the wall of the bag, stopping pressure on the BNC fitting...
Make sense ???

Have you heard of anybody else having this problem with the center connector ???

HI GUYS----We got both the headphone Uni-probe & the pocket Uni-probe. They are good probes but as you know-you do have to be a little careful with them. We've had to send both in for repair over the years (mostly due to connector problems). I finally ended up having Gary (Detector Pro) hard wire my pocket Uni-probe. It worked great then for quite awhile (I didn't notice any loss of depth)-but even at that the connector broke loose. I sent it in for a second hard wire job and-----so far, so good!!! We have used belt mount but have found, putting the unit in a small camera case-then belt mounting it works very well. I have read that somebody carried the pocket probe in a cut down leather cell phone case (that sounded rather interesting). One thing I don't like about the probe is--that switch getting bumped to the on position so easily. I couldn't even carry them in a bag in the car without it happening all the time-then ending up with a dead battery. I finally just started dis-connecting the battery & turning it half around in the probe unit. (when I wasn't using it for an extended length of time.------Del

Thanks Del, they are really electronic instruments eh!
I do look after my gear, and will be very aware of looking after my Uniprobe when it arrives !

Much obliged again for the tips.:smoke:

Having the UniProbe off the belt, means that you will stretch out the coil to use it. I clipped it onto my front pocket till recently(I now store it in my finds pouch.), with the coil shoved in the pocket. With it attached to the front pocket, it seemed to keep the unit close enough to where the target was as to not need to stretch it out. So to answer your first question, I wouldn't recommend that you operate it from that holder. storing it there would be fine. Just remove it for use.
I'm electronically ignorant, but from what you are describing to me, it sounds like you are setting up a strain relief. i don't pretend to know how they work, but assume that that is the roll for what the are meant for. the connector that I'm concerned about, is that the coil of the probe is detachable from the main body, via a bayonet set up. The vulnerable part of it, is the male part of the centre of the connection of the coil, but by the sounds of you, you have got that. The goal is to keep sideways tension from this part of the unit. When you see it, it will be clear to you.
Have fun with it.
Mick Evans.
P.S. I'm getting 2 to 3 inches out of it at the moment, but I have a dodgy solder connecting it to the mother board. it is a very tight fit and I seem to be having trouble trying to pull it through enough to get a solid solder. Also note. It air tests quite poorly. It does much better with a target in the ground. So don't worry if you air test it and only get 2 inches out of it. It does better than that in the ground.

HI AGAIN GUYS---This is the way I carry the pocket Uni-probe and I have experimented with different ways till I am "blue in the face"-but this way works best for me.---I'm right handed and I never could stand anything around my right arm detector swing.---I have a 3 pocket "jimmy Sierra" pouch which is carried on the front of my belt--the Uni-probe is carried on this belt (just to the left of the pouch)---the pouch has a neat little loup on the left side of it, just ideal to stick the probe part in--I used to carry my Lesche knife in a leather holster just to the left of the Uni-probe-but it was too awkward, so now I carry the knife (point down) in one of the pouch pockets (the point or blade does not damage to the pouch. I use an "ear bud" with 1/8 jack on the wire & run the wire under my shirt up to my headphones. The "bud doesn"t even have to be in your ear--you can just have it under your headphone cup. When you want to use the probe-you just flip the probe switch you can hear it fine. I hope this is a little "clearer than mud" to you-but it's the way I have done it over an extended period of time and it works fine for me. The only thing you have to watch on all this---is to keep the body of the Uni-probe far enough to the left--because if your leg bends that cable going into bottom of the housing very many times--YOU WILL have connector problems (whether it's hard wired or not).-----Hope all this helps somebody out there.------Take care, Del

Interesting as I used my Pocket uniprobe for the 1st time on Friday, for only for 2 hours but was experimenting with different belt mount locations, next time will try all of your suggestions.

One thing for sure this Probe is got great depth for only 2 hours of use.

Thanks Mick, Del, and Dabeachbum...:detecting:

Good to be forewarned of any potential problems...
