Union buckle with ATP

Found this today at an old homesite on my farm in Ky with the ATP. Hoping it's a buckle but it might be an emblem for a cartridge case. This is the first Civil War related find on this site. I'm pretty much digging everything above small iron hits. Loving the ATP, hunting in Pro, 35 iron audio and full sens. The buckle was only about 8" so it hit hard.

Excellent find! It's in much better shape than the one I found - looked like it had been through a fire.

That is a US cartridge box plate...they went on the leather flap of the pouch that held their bullets/powder/percussion caps.

Thanks for the info. Can't wait to get back to the site and hopefully find some more Civil War era items.
