Unique Gilted button 76

coinworld

Well-known member
Got out today to a civil war camp in N Virginia that’s been pounded through the years but the Deus2 is a beast in depth and in iron separation; I ended up with a .54 round ball, a civil war period brass wedding band, a rubber 4 hole button; and a flat gilted button with the backmark; IRKELSO EXTRA RICH , but the front seeks gold gilted as well with a bust of Washington??? 76???? Anyone see a flat button like this ?

Nice digs there Coinworld. I don't believe I've ever dug a button with that back mark. I see the "bust" image but I think that is just a wear pattern. Cool find though.

Cool digs, congratulations

Lodge, you may be right about the image. Nice find though. I see Abe Lincoln in the clouds often but a few minutes later it could be ole" George or a ship.

Google "A button--this much I know". There is reference to another forum that has information on flat buttons. It could be pre-Civil War.
