The Omega and I got in a short two hour hunt this morning and 1 of the targets seeming has some history behind it. It is a token type of coin about quarter size and on one side says STEAMER DESOTO with a 5 in the middle and on the other side the numbers 156. A quick search of Steamer Desoto reveals it was in commercial service between 1859-1861 and ran from N Y to Havana and New Orleans and was then purchased by the Navy in 1861 and was in a Blockading squadron into 1865 in the New Orleans area. It went back into commercial service in 1865-1870 when with a load of cotton bales, sugar and molasses caught fire and burned to the water line. It saw some blockading action in the Mississippi river. Not great pictures, but kind of a neat find. I am thinking a may be a locker token. It hit at 78-81 and was 5" deep. Also got a little clad and 2 wheat cents, 1919 and 1928. HH jim tn
