I was out detecting this afternoon when I got a somewhat funky, semi-repeatable signal. It was showing 8" deep, so I thought I'd check it out and see what it was. I cut my initial plug and flipped it back. At the bottom of the plug - about 4" down, I saw a button peeking out. I pulled the button out and started trying to rub the dirt off to see what the button said. As I was doing this, I turned it over, and low and behold there was a Rosie dime tucked into the back of the button! Part of the button's pin was still holding it in place. Now I have the dilemma of deciding whether to take the dime out, or leave it in. I'd like to know what year it is, but it might make a better conversation piece as it is. I would like to try and clean the front side of the button, too, but in doing so the dirt in the back may become dislodged and let the dime fall out. (Maybe this was somebody's emergency phone call dime, and this was their way of carrying it?)
What would you do - clean it or leave it?
Oh, yeah, I also found a 1919S and a 1937D wheatie. Oh, also some kind of man's copper ring. It looks like a plain wedding band type - only made out of copper. Nothing engraved that I could find.
HH and thanks for looking!
