Update on employment...

Pete in MI

New member
Have applications and resumes in many places. Have an interview with the funeral home on Monday. Was pretty much shot down with the No Worker Left Behind program since there isn't money there until - maybe - after July and I am on a list of many others...they pick and chose who should get the money for training. I was surprised when I learned a computer science program for criminal investigations was less expensive than a course on small engine repair. I took a correspondence course years ago for small engine repair and never cost as much as either of these 2 programs.

I did get with the Experience Works manager who was impressed with me. He wanted to get me into a St. Vincent de Paul thrift store and mentioned a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. I said I would be driving by the ReStore every day going to St. Vinny's and would take more gas to get to St. Vinny's. He called Wed. and wanted me to call the ReStore and set up an interview with the manager there. Went there today and, once all the Experience Works paperwork is completed, I'll be working at the ReStore 20 hours a week at minimum wage. I am very happy about not having to drive further and even part time is better than the no time I am working now. The Experience Works program is for people over 55 and is a federal program...the ReStore doesn't pay me - EW does so the ReStore basically gets free help.

The program is good up to between 6 and 9 months while I continue to search for full time work. Monday morning have the interview at the funeral hime and the paperwork getting done for working at the ReStore. The manager had already given me a work schedule which has to be re-done pending all the paperwork. So will have money coming in soon....and though it will bring money for bills my first thoughts is "Yea, I can tithe and help the church again.!"

Thanks for all the prayers. Still looking for full time work. I am thinking it would be good to be an Associate at a funeral home...helping (and praying for) people, making trips for pick ups and deliveries to other cities and towns...so travelling involved...and would get to ride in a Cadillac - just kidding...owned one already.

God is at work!

congrats, praying for ya.

Praise God for the good news and He will be helping you for a full time job according to His purpose and for your good! Amen! May God Bless! Ma Betty

Hey Pete,

This may be a rediculous question but have you considered a position in sales? How about being a Fuller Brush guy? It's honorable and may make you a good living? Just a thought.

Sold Christmas and greeting cards when I was a kid. Have been an Amway rep.....3 times (twice in the US and once in England) - never got beyond 3%. The demo kits I had to pay for...when I least could afford them were all stolen.

Actually, I am doing sales now....trying to sell myself (not my soul) to an employer.

Was told (in Amway) you never 'give the opportunity of Amway to the needed...you give it to the greedy. They are the ones with money and a desire to make more." I was needy...and not greedy.

Appreciate the thought though but just can't see myself trying to sell to someone something they least can afford or need.

Praying for ya, Pete. I know how hard it is out there right now. My parents have both been looking and they are in their early to mid-fifties. They have found nothing. The job market is so different from what it used to be.

Our nation and the whole world is different than what it used to be when I was growing up and when I was married! Circumstances in life has changed so much, so therefore, I am holding onto Jesus even more and more, because I couldn't get through the struggles and troubles without Him! The house in Cuba, MO was sold right on time, so I could have the money for taxes and pay off some other bills & etc. We will be closing in mid May and I sure will be glad! I sure do need the money from the sale of it! Praise God and Thank You, Jesus! Amen! May God Bless! Ma Betty

We are so blessed to have a God who loves us as much as He does and that He meets all our needs...on time. He has shown us over and over that He is there to provide the answer when in a worldly sense we knew nothing more could be done....God is greater than the world. Thank you Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit.

Amen, Pete!

Lisa
