Update on interview...

Pete in MI

New member
Out of 40+ applications the owners picked the top 10 applicants they felt might meet their needs. I made the cut obviously. In talking with one of the two brothers who own the store (and one downstate), I found out it is a family business. I like family businesses. They asked about strong points - weak points and why I would like to work there. I had many reasons. First was satisfying the customers who come in. Many come up from downstate for a weekend of fun. A dead battery for anything (cell phone, car, boat, motorcycle, etc.) certainly takes away from that fun. Told them I would love to be the one to make them happy and also lighten their wallets to help the company profit. It also means if I could meet their needs they would more likely come back to our community next time. If their weekend was otherwise unsatisfying they might not come back...meaning fewer dollars coming into our community.

The other brother came in mid interview and he seemed very happy to know I used to be a police officer. My maintenance experience was a plus as well as I can do troubleshooting to determine what is wrong with a clients piece of equipment. Maybe it isn't the battery or just a loose connection. I can do those things.

The first brother asked if I had any problems with the store hours and said no and that being off on Sundays is wonderful as I go to church on Sundays and my wife plays music for the church...I get to move the keyboard back and forth for her. They said they too are Christians who attend church on Sundays.

Weakness of course is I don't know a thing about cash registers or credit card machines....but..did mention Experience Works has me at Habitat for Humanity ReStore where I am going to be getting that training. One brother did mention that they will be providing training as well and I welcomed that.

Don't know what others have to offer but I was willing to just take minimum wage...I live close and it is full time employment - was told they start out above minimum and then after a trial period they decide if an increase in wages is justified. I think I have just moved up in the competition...hopefully to first place. They were impressed with my experiences with equipment that utilizes batteried and having worked on the equipment both as a janitor and maintenance who had to replace and maintain the batteries...as well as hotels needed batteries for lots of their equipment as well.

It is in God's hands and I will accept whatever He gives me. God is an AWESOME God!

You've done all you can do and, as you have stated, it's now in God's capable hands. We'll continue to pray you'll get the knod to get the position.

God hears and answers your needs according to His plans for you and I believe this job is for you, so I ask God to help the owners of the store to give you favor and to bless you mightily with the work and pay! Sounds good and God is GOOD and loves to Bless anyone who is His obedient and faithful Child! Praise God and Thank You, Jesus, for Pete's ability to be hired right away for this job that you know he needs to serve and worship You and then he will able to bless his church and others through the salary that You provide for him! Amen! Ma Betty
