Updates To Firm Ware

Just a question about the e-trac. Since it has a USB interface, does the company release updates for the machine that can be installed. I haven't read anywhere about this, but am hoping it is not a silly question.

No, they do not. However, with the XP Deus having that capabilities, it would not surprise me if they start doing that in the near future.

Nice thing about the E-Trac is no updates have been needed and no recalls or upgrades required either.Minelab continues their highest level of tested design before releasing their machines and have added the transferable warranty now and also added more stateside repair facilities for even greater peace of mind concerning their products.

Good point Ray Mo, but on the Deus they just added new functionality, it wasn't like there were any problems that I know of. Also, it allowed them to release the Deus fully functioning and add some VERY BIG features (At not extra cost) at a later date - like some form of depth meter, iron level, multiple non motion modes, new modes, etc.) So, on the one hand they can test the unit fully, but can also release it 6 months or more sooner and then add some features for free at a later date. And I'll tell you, that could be a huge selling feature.

Metal detecting companies are no different then any other leading high tech company. When one of it's competitors introduces new functionality (in this case software updates/improvements) free to their customers , the other companies will either follow suite or take a chance on losing a share of the market place. I am not in no way comparing the Deus to the E-Trac. As a matter of fact, I own both and love using both. The E-Trac is one of the best and most advanced detector on the market today. Just think about how neat it would be if Minelab offered future software updates/improvements free to all of their customers. I would think it would be a huge selling point to potential customers. Just my reason why it would not surprise me if Minelab follows suite sometime in the near future.
