Upgrading to an E-Track

I guess I'm just one of those guys who wants something bigger and better. I've also read that the multi-frequency machines are better than the single frequency models. Sooooo, I'm thinking of upgrading to a new E-Track. I've only had my X705 for almost a year and I've had some good success but maybe I could do even better with a new E-Track. I would appreciate it someone would help me with this thinking.

 I like having both technogies. Each has it's strengths.

Buy the E.Trac , a brilliant machine but keep the Terra its also brilliant .
I had

I bought my etrac over 3 yrs ago and I love it, but I kept my xterra as a backup and my wife also uses it from time to time, I have no plans on ever selling the xterra it is a great machine

IMO, an FBS machine really is so different from V-Flex, that it isn't as much an upgrade as you might think...just different. Where one falls a little short, the other excels, making them an amazing compliment to each other.

Every now and then I kick around the idea of buying an e Trac but I always end up dropping the thought. I can't say that spending the money is an issue but it's more of justifying another detector. As a family we feel like we really clean out a site very well with our 705's between the three of us.

I think I'd have to have someone go over a site that we feel ls cleaned out pretty well and have them come up with a significant quantity of finds or a layer of finds deeper than what we have already recovered with the variety of coils that we use. I understand the multi frequency with one coil and the added features but nothing really makes me feel like I'm missing out by not "upgrading".

Maybe if my 705 craps out someday and the repair would run a little more than expected I'd consider replacing it with an e trac. Just can't see myself having an extra detector setting around with the success that I feel I've had so far with the 705 especually since I can only use one at a time. I have enough other hobbies to keep me busy if I have to wait a few weeks for my 705 to be repaired at some point.

Who knows, maybe someday I'll get bored, want a change and just buy one but looking through my book of coins finds, I'm pretty happy at this point in time. Maybe I'm victim of fanboyism like I read in this article a few years back but I doubt it. To me it's really the same reason that I don't own two vehicles that can accomplish similar tasks.

Fanboyism

Mineralized soil, wet salt sand, mild to moderate trash, looking for older coins and mid sized to larger gold rings....E-Trac

Milder soil, moderate to trashy sites, old coins, gold jewelry hunting of all types except micro gold, nugget hunting....X-Terra

I have both units and they do compliment each other, but I find I am using the X-Terra more simply because it's easier to use, lighter, and is hotter on gold jewelry with the HF coil. Both units do well in iron, but the E-Trac with the way it can run and how it has both conductive and ferrous ID, is better at IDing in iron laden sites. But the X-Terra with the LF Digger coil is a killer in iron too and a super silver coin hunter.

E-Trac is an awesome unit but it is becoming heavy on the arm for me and I only use the Sunray X-5 on it now for old silver coin hunting. Got the Pro Coil and Sunray X-8 for it but I can't swing that baby for long even with the 8 inch coil on it.

She may be going up for sale shortly.

Don't sell that X-Terra short....it can hunt with the biggest and baddest of detectors and the only place I find it can't keep up, depth and stability wise, is on a salt water beach ( but I stopped using my E-Trac in that environment due to I have water proof units for that, and it was almost toast one day when a big wave hit me in the wet sand and splashed up and almost drenched the thing. No more of that ! ) The X-Terra in the wet salt sand does well with the LF coil in a pinch

I don't hunt places with highly mineralized soil so I cannot comment first hand on how the X-Terra does, but based on reading and experiences of others, it seems the E-Trac is the better unit in that type of condition,

Good luck if you decide to get an E-Trac...you will have fun with it.
