I could'nt wait for the lousy weather to pass.So I headed south for the new hunting grounds. As usual I went in there with high expectations and left after 2-1/2 hours disappointed and defeated. I've never seen so many pull-tabs in my life. It seemed like I could'nt go anywhere and not have my Ace sounding off like an alarm. I would get a quarter tone..pull-tab. Nickel...pull-tab. Penny...pull-tab. Never got a single dime tone at all. And plenty of old bottle caps and just as many new ones..all chiming in as coins. I was flustrated....I think I actually found about 80 cents in clad..A dogtag..for a dog. And a small key. I wondered how Garrett can claim that it's detectors won't chime in on these objects if you notch them out. It just is'nt true. Same goes for nails and tacks. I'm certainly not giving up on this place...maybe the sniper will behave better. Anyways..here are some pic's of the area I was sweeping today. And I damn near forgot about this little item that I dug out of the Lion's Club area the same day as my other finds. I thought it was an old padlock of some kind. It was covered in dirt and roots when I found it, and I brought it home and left it on the porch and forgot about it. Got around to cleaning it and discovered it is an old pocket watch? Anybody ever seen one like this? Would be nice to know how old it is.
There's not a detector made(Garrett or any other brand)that isn't fooled by older, corroded, rusty bottle caps and such. The corrosion/rust increases the conductivity/reading and therefore it chimes in the coin range. I understand how you got frustrated, though. I never have high hopes hunting anywhere. That way, when I find something nice it's a pleasant surprise. If a place to too incredibly trashy, some times you just need to take your time and clean out the trash to find the goodies beneath. Best of luck to ya!
Happy Hunting!
