:usaflag: A couple of hours with the Excal dry sandy beach hunting :detecting:

I;m still learning to listen for differences in response for different metals using the Excal.

It is the older model with the horseshoe coil and is interesting to use.

I found a handful of change that totaled a little over a dollar, but I;m learning to distinguish between the various coins and the pull tabs and odd bits of iron and foil.

Each of these has a different reaction in signal tonal response.

Dimes and pennies really stir things up. Nickles are not far behind.

Quarters sound bigger and foil has a harsh sand paper quality to it.

Buried rusty nails can be clear and loud demanding to be dug up. but most surface nails are ignored!

I didn't find any valuable jewels today, but I am learning what the Excal is telling me and feel like I have a jewel in this machine!!

Your gonna find em man.... Best way to prep yourself is take a gold ring, a chain, a pull tab and so on and test yourself over and over again. I did that for the first few months and it does help but its important to remember that some targets that sound like junk are treasure and some targets that sound like treasure are junk. Overall though the Excal is pretty reliable in its tones...I cant wait to see what you find! Good luck

Thanks Fellow Hunters!!

It's great trying new things.

I'm playing around with an Ace 250 and comparing it to the Excal for dry land/beach hunting.

Interesting so far.

Got lots of old places to search and all I need is time to do it.

Hey Cupajo,
Gudday from Oz Mate, just like John mentioned above, are you operating in all metal or disc?
You should just get a bit of grunt sound from rusty objects or even a bit of a null, but if in all metal the tone will be same right over all objects.
I have only owned one machine, for 13yrs, my trusty Excal and now I need to update to maybe a SovGT so I don't need
to understand how it works, similar to the old Excal in some ways.
Goodluck on the hunting side of things and hopefully you will chance upon a bit of glitter.
Cheers and HH

Thanks for your info Friends,

The bulk of the nails and wire and iron are not even responding with a signal.

When the nails are very rusty and have a halo of iron around them they may give off a good tone.

The settings are what I have read are standard for the machine with discrimination on -1, sensitivity at 12 o'clock (pointing straight at the center of the coil the

dial doesn't have numbers on this model), the volume at a comfortable level, the threshold at a tiny bit below audible. and the machine in discriminate mode.

Maybe if I played with the sensitivity a bit I might lose those rusty nails?

I only adjust sens until i can get into the water without it falsing...I turn it up until it does when i swing the coil (im in the water when i do this bc u will get different readings on land) and then i turn it down just until it stops falsing and then I know im ready to go. Good luck!

just be patient I purchased a Excalibur 800 last summer in august.I was only able to hunt in a fresh water lake for one month.I was able to pull out 8 or 9 rings,3 gold 1 silver the rest junk.not forgetting alot of clad and fishing sinkers.I just started water hunting in august. I had always land before so it had to be the excal because I am greeeeeeen when it comes to water hunting.but I promise THE GOLD WILL COME!!!!!! Best of luck! By the way, the Excal I purchased was also used.
