A few days ago my Excal and I found this silver (1964) quarter on the beach I frequent.

When I scooped it up from the dry sand at a very shallow depth of no more than 3

guess as they say timing is everything-that was one fine quarter -how deep does that cleaner thing go possibly it was a relatively new drop

This machine cleans the very top layer of sand, maybe 2 to 3 inches at most, early every morning.

It can be adjusted to go deeper I'm sure, but they only want to catch the surface debris.

I've heard that sometimes they will do a deep cleaning, but it takes a lot more time and causes more wear and tear on the machine.

This coin is as clean as a just minted coin and couldn't have been there more than a day at most.

I'd really like to know how it got there and that is the mystery!

Still occasionally find silver in pocket change. That's my guess. Too bad it got beat up.

Believe it or not, a Michigan MDer was doing Gulf Beaches in FL, and found a 1799 silver dollar. Figure that one out!

None of the silver I have ever taken from the water was free of corrosion.

I found one silver dollar many years ago and when I finished peeling away the oxidation I had lost maybe a 1/4 of the coin.

I've found quite a few on the dry sand too, but I have never found a silver coin as clean as this one.
