I got a chance to go detecting yesterday, back near the Sailor's Creek Civil War battlefield, which is just outside of Rice, Virginia. As most of you know, I've been out there several times, and made some good finds. But the pickings are starting to get a little scarce; I did manage to find 2 Civil War bullets, and a musketball... but man, I really had to work for them. Swinging for hours, I got tired of listening to dead air, so out of boredom of something better to do, I dug a few surface signals. I usually don't dig surface signals when I'm relic hunting. One, it wastes time, two, 99% of1 undisturbed relics are going to be deep, particularly in a flat field. So as you can see from the photograph, I dug some modern change.
On my way home, I was thinking to myself that I'm not going to make a post on the forum with three bullets. Then I thought, well hey, why not do a contest for these two Civil War bullets?

After detecting about an hour, I finally was able to pull this bullet from about seven inches. I was detecting around a pond that the land owner told me had been dredged out by mules over a hundred years ago. Continuing around the pond, I finally got another bullet, this one had been fired. It was also about seven inches.

This is a photo of my hard earned digs for the day.

Since I'm doing a contest for the bullets, I'm including this photograph of where I found them. The retreat route road is to the right of the picture, up the hill about 50 yards.

Here's the two Civil War bullets. I just did a minimal cleaning on them, basically just washing off the dirt; I left the dirt in the cavities. These are 3 ring, .58 caliber bullets from the Battle of Sailor's Creek from April 6, 1865.

All you have to do is come closest to guessing how many MnM's are in this dish. Its not a very deep dish, so I've enclosed a second photograph of the depth of the dish, to give you a better idea for your guess. The person coming closest to the actual number, either high or low, will win the bullets. The person who guesses the exact number of M&M can have their choice of one of my art prints as well as the bullets ~ such a deal.
In case of tie or a dupicate guess the first poster wins. Go to this site for a look at my art prints; www.vecrossalaska.com Contest ends Sunday night at 6:00.
>>> Please post your guess in the subject box so the tally can be done easily plus other posters can see your guess reducing the chances of duplications.
<<<
Good luck... and remember, even if you don't win, playing the game beats a jab in the eye with a sharp stick!
