:usaflag: Dual Field Cold Water Hunt!! :detecting:

When I arrived at the beach the water was calm with a slight breeze out of the north which usually cause no problem for water hunting this beach.

The moment I finished climbing into my waders, picking up my gear and headed to the water's edge, the wind picked up and switched to the north west which I knew would kick up swell in a short while.

I waded out to waist deep at low tide and managed a two hour hunt before the waves started getting me wet and I had to leave the 40F water.

I ended up with a couple of silver quarters and 1-clad dime and three newer style pennies.

The one quarter is a 1927 standing Liberty and the other is a newer pattern, which I left covered in the sandy crust for comparison.

These two silver coins came from a place heavily hunted for many years and I have personally hunted it many times.

The Dual Field sounded off loud and clear on both these coins re-assuring me that it is doing a great job!

Looks like the DF is going to be good to you!

Thanks for your reply Rich!

It has paid for itself since early last year in gold and silver jewelry.

Always enjoy your posts CJ. . . very positive and motivating. Just got my DF and planning to get out this next week w/it. If I can manage to have even a fraction of the success you have I'll be a happy hunter! Thanks again . .

Hi srf2112,

The DF has produced well and has been my number one machine since I bought it over a year ago.

I recently ordered a 10X14 Mono coil for my Infinium LS so that I can go over the same ground to see what the results will be.

Yesterday AM, after three hours of hard digging I managed to recover, among other things, a small 10K class ring from 1930.

The tide is right later this AM and I may have a chance to hunt a bit.

GL&HH Friend,

I have had my DF for over a yer now and can't get a handel on it. I have read all the books and stuff I can find and still have a big problem with it pinpointing etc. Any hints or help would sure be appreciated. I would love to find things like you do. I have used it mostly here on the east coast at the beach. Dry sand wet sand even in waist deep water i'm ready to sell the dam thing. HELP

Hi dj,

PI machine are a breed apart when it comes to pin-pointing, especially with larger coils!

When I have a target that wants to get lost in the hole I turn the coil on edge and can better determine where the thing is in the hole that way.

I use a very large scoop too which often lets me get the target on the first try.

PI machines in general require some getting used to and when you find yourself digging for targets you think you may have heard a signal for, you will start finding the good stuff!!

Obvious targets with loud defined signals account for most finds, but the really rare and wonderful finds come from learning to listen for what may be termed "ghost signals"!

These are so faint as to have you wondering if you actually heard them or not! (They are usually repeatable!)

Sometimes they will be a figament of your imagination, but other times they will be the real deal!!

Remember, the good stuff is mostly heavy and/or old and in both cases will likely be buried deep. (Sometimes the small stuff too!)

Slow and steady is the name of the game,

CJ

PS Most finds are located from the wet sand area at the edge of dry sand out into the water maybe thirty feet! After that they are usually scattered more.

This may vary with wave action and prevailing currents along the beach. (Storms stir things up too.)

Watching people in and out of the water can reveal a lot about how you should hunt a beach.

Well thanks for the info or should I say pep talk.I am going to try and learn this machine and listen for the faint tones. Will try the coil on the side sounds logical less coil better pinpoint. Thanks again will keep you posted.
