Old Ma Nature finally gave us a break this afternoon with low tide and moderate temperatures, gentle breeze out of the south and equally gentle swells making the water easy to hunt.

After over four hours of hard digging I took home three 10K rings, two silver rings, a bus token and a Madona medal of heavy copper that was silver plated at one time and has the date 1830 on it!

Two of the rings are senior rings one from 1970 and the other 1935!

Just to keep things in perspective I'm showing every bit of metal that was dug to allow me to get the gold.

I hand held the little Fuji Camera and most of the shots turned out fine.

Nice finds. You ever experience the thrill of returning a lost ring? Betcha the folks from 35 may not even be around. Their kids might be. Jim

Hey Cupajo,

GREAT FINDS!!!

It sure seems like you're doing real well with the Dual Field!!!!:beers:

I suppose it's now your favorite machine too?

Please share your thoughts on it after having used it for a while now!

All the best!!!:usaflag:

Hi Fellow Hunters,

Diggin the DF is user friendly and the only problem I have with it is that about half the time I chase the finds due to pin-pointing and the large coil.

I almost lost the first gold ring today because of the large stones it was buried among and the chore I had digging it out!

It is easier to use as a "turn on and go" machine than the Infinium, but I found a lot of goodies with the LS before I got tired of messing with it.

The LS is my "back-up" machine for sure!!

I would say at this point that the DF is my choice for water machine!

It has found enough gold to pay for itself.(Of course I had to do the diggin!!)

O' Man, as of the most recent ring I returned the number is now 35!!

I haven't had one owner refuse one yet!!:)

Tomorrow is supposed to get colder Don, but I am working on clothes that can keep me warm in a dry-suit so I can hunt when it isn't too rough!!

GL&HH Fellow Hunters,

CJ

Dig it and you will find it.
Congrats on the great assortment of finds specially the GOLD !!

A Hunting Friend assures me that the date on the medal has religious significance rather than being the age of the item.

I thought it was in unusually good shape for that age!

Usually after the silver plating is gone the chain loop is eaten by the salt!

Thanks for your replies Friends.

GL&HH,

CJ

Your friend beat me to it! I will be reading your posts with great interest as I plan on getting into surf hunting like yourself. I live in southern California but have done mostly fresh water lake hunting with my 1280-x. Yesterday I picked up a Surf PI Pro with the intent of "expanding my horizons".

Thanks for your reply Friend!

Any questions about water hunting will get answers here at this forum from a bunch of hunters with thousands of hours of experience! (some of them good!:))

i love my pi dual but it will have you digging and chasing small bits of trash ' but the reason i got a pi is the beaches around me (middle Chesapeake bay) are old, many of them late 1800s and early 1900s so IMO its worth the digging

Great job, I'm really liking my DF also. Last week though it seems lots of sand moved back in and for 12 plus hours last weekend only a lil change and a big silver ring... but I have been finding silver rings for the last 6 trips to the condo, just wondering when the next gold will come?

Good to hear that you have returned 35. Might let us know about the reaction and surprise of the one who lost it.

I do dry suit too. For just plain cold I use Smart Wool underwear. The itchy fibers are removed before it's woven but it feels just like cotton. On top of the Smart Wool, I put the heaviest polar fleece I can find. The good thing about both of those materials if the suit floods or just gets you a bit damp, the insulating quality of the garments is not lost.

If it's bad bad cold, I have to go to one of the commercially manufactured undergarments made specifically for dry suits. Guess the problem is if you are not careful what cloth you have underneath the dry suit, bits of fuzz and all will eventually end up in the automatic rair vent valve. Unless you are diving with it, I don't think that would be a major problem. When wading one does not normally need or use the air venting system. Just grab the neck seal and slightly pull it away from you neck.

I like to have as much air out as I can as I need less weight. The compromise is the suit squeezes your body harder and the cold is nearer the surface of your skin. The air inside is not a good insulator but it's better than the thickness of the dry suit material.

Wonderful finds! Jim

Hi Jim,

My suit is one of the kind that isn't intended for diving and has no valve.

It's not a problem for me as I don't dive.

Body Armor and Polar Fleece have been useful, but never quite enough it seems.

How are you protecting your hands and what do you use for foot wear and head protection?

I submitted a post a few months back about a 92 years young widow I found two wedding bands for!

She was overwhelmed to say the least to have back her wedding band and also her mother's band that she had lost after she lost her own.

I posted several of these tales on the 20th Century Tales Forum.

Nice finds someday ill be right there with you . I have a question I love the PI but how do you pinpoint with the big coil it drives me crazy trying to pinpoint an object especially if it is tiny any tips or tricks you have found would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Butch,

That is one of the few small complaints I have about the DF!

It helps that I use both a huge scoop and a sifter so I don't have small items fall out of the scoop unless I move too slow getting the load into the sifter!

The fact that where I hunt has tons of cobble stones as big as my head can really cause problems in getting at the find.

A little over four hours of hunting as described above left me worn out so I didn't do much of anything yesterday!

When I carefully move the coil over a find after I have chased it for a couple or three scoops, I can usually determine which side of the hole to concentrate on and often the very next load will put the find in the sifter!

Sorry I don't have more to offer in the way of pin-pointing wisdom, but even with this annoying issue the DF is great!!

CJ
