I got home this afternoon to find that Clive's new book had arrived!

I checked with my jeweler friend and picked up the reward for finding 13 gold rings and called my Whites dealer friend and picked up a brand new Dual Field!

A late evening (just before dark) spin at the water's edge, above the water line, yielded 2 pennies and various nails, wire etc. none of which were exceptionally deep!

I gave the coins to a 4 year old boy that was watching very closely (too closely!) every move I made! (He wanted to scour the beach with my Garrett's Propointer to see what he might find!)

I spoke to a handful of people and children about the hobby demonstrating how the machine works and reassuring them that if they would just use a detector long enough it would pay for itself as mine had!

I'll hold off on printing my opinions of the Dual Field until I have had a chance to use it in the water!

On wet sand it seems no better than any other PI!

Maybe when I get in the suds after reading Clive's new book on using the PI I might have more to report!

You have the Garrett Infinium also, I would like to know by late fall what your choice would be between the two...Maybe you can do a side by side for us would be a great help.....Thanks Cj.................Joe.........Obn

Mr. Cupajo,

Yes indeed give us reports. I think GrumpyOldMan (Jim) just picked one up too! Sounds like you were the "Kindly Teacher" on the beach today. Tomorrow you will see hundreds of kids running around with Musketeers or 250s getting all the loot!

Good luck with your new machine!

Best Regards,
Steve

I spent a few hours up on the beach and four hours out in the water getting to know the Whites DF and I do like the way it works!

I found several nickles that were discolored enough to have been there for a long while.

There were three clad quarters, seven dimes (one silver), a few pennies and six various sized fishing sinkers.

I removed many hair-pins and odd bits of metal from the beach and a lot of junk iron bolts etc from the water a few yards from the beach.

I am starting to make sense of the machines language and haven't had a lot of trouble with pin-pointing with the 12" coil.

The tide is dead low now at mid-day and it is too hot and crowded in the water, but when I can get back out there I shall let you know how things go.

Would like to hear your take on the DF, after you read Clive's book CJ. Also would like to know how one, "picked up the reward for finding 13 gold rings"?

Hi GH,

I still have to spend some time with the DF to really understand her.

It's been too hot to catch the tide this week (which has been at mid-day), but early and late low tide is a few days away.

Clive's book helps and has answered the questions that have come up so far.

As for "the reward", I was of course referring to what I got for selling them.

I was at the beach today asking around about a ring I found last year that I am trying to return.

I got a good lead on a wedding ring with three large diamonds from one person and a Ladies Rolex from another!

Wish me luck,

CJ

CJ...All I can say is I am glad we are hunting in different parts of the States. You'd be a kick to go out with but I think I like the competition pressure better the way it is. My dual field should be here in about a week and then I'll be out starting all over with the learning curve. I'll use mine wading but hope to be diving with it most of the time.
Hey GH and all. I did get the Hookamax 12 volt DC unit. Got some golf cart batteries for it and I think I'll get well over 2 hours bottom time with it. The unit weighs 48 pounds and each battery is 63 pounds. Plan to build a cart to put it all in so I can wheel it to the beach. Discoverd that the builder put a pressure switch on the accumulator tank, electical, which turns the motor off when the tank is full. The motor does not continue to run when air demand is low and won't make that miserable pop off valve sound every 10 seconds or so. That nice little feature was ommitted in the HM website. later you all..Jim
