I have dug hundreds of square nails (or cut nails) and I wanted to share that if your town/city has a historical society or equivalent and they are helping in the restoration of colonial buildings or other that were made with square nails they will gladly accept donations to aid in rebuilding. Not only are they superior to modern nails and they have to buy them from specialized manufacturers, but it's really cool to have something you dug re-used in a piece of restored history. Idk if others do this but my historical society was happy to use the ones I found that were in good shape to fix up a local schoolhouse from the 1800s. And I was more proud to give them than to show off any of my other finds on display. It's keeping history alive!
