Used Some Electrolysis And Some Elbow Grease...

...on that military logistics corps plate I dug up in the farm field last week. Came out pretty good.

Do not know what he used but I use an older battery charger. Works great and most items are done in only a few minutes.

Mike, your a GOD!

Mike, a quick question. I have been really discouraged with my excal because everytime I use it (IN PINPOINT) at the settings you described at first, I cannot distinguish the tones. I finally listened to your ring and coin tones download and for the heck of it set my excal at descrim level 2. WOW! OH MY GOD! in descrim I understand the tones completely. What did I do wrong. Is it ok to hunt with excal at level 2 descrim. I was picking up thin gold about 6 to 7 inches with practice and learning the tones. They sound much like your tones you allowed us to down load. In pinpoint, I was digging every little tone and they all sounded the same. What was I doing wrong??

Thanks,

Gary

It's amazing what a little voltage will do, very nice find.

Man, that's an easy one. In pinpoint mode the tones ARE all the same. That's because pinpoint mode is ALL METAL mode. You want to have that switch in DISC mode and you get the variable tones, regardless of where you run the disc DIAL...1, 2, etc.

I don't use pinpoint at all...it's too easy to do it in disc, at least with a little practice. As for running Disc at 2, your call. You WILL miss some small gold. I run it all the way down, at 1. That said, I suppose there may be a time and a place to run A LITTLE disc. Not for me though...my disc is my own hearing. I listen to it all and let the ears make the call to dig or not.

It's a power brick from some Altec Lansing computer speakers. What I do is fill it up with distilled water, add a teaspoonful of baking soda, stir it up, and then immerse the item in it and do like 3 to 5 minute bouts and pull it out for checking and cleaning. I use warm soapy tap water and a toothbrush and the junk comes off easy after a bout or two in the tank. I repeat until clean and then depending on what it is I might polish it up or not.

Here's my whole setup:
