USING GARRETT GTI 2500 ON SALT SAND BEACHES

Has anyone used a Garrett GTI 2500 on salt sand beaches? If so, how did it work and what are the best settings to use for that detector? Also, what size coil should be used? I have the 8" and 12". I am headed for Gulf Shores, Alabama in May and am taking my detector. Any good advice would be appreciated as I haven't had much experience beach hunting.

My guess is that all single frequency machines have a difficult time dealing with high salt/mineralization areas. The GTI 2500 is a single frequency machine also. The smaller coil should give you an advantage, as it won't be seeing as much salt as a bigger one, so you should be able to run it at a higher sensitivity. Run the sensitivity as high as possible but stable to get the best results. You will get better results ground balancing the machine in true all metal mode and hunting parallel along the beach along the water. If you go to and from the water, expect greater salt/ mineralization changes more often. And use the automatic ground tracking too.

I used mine briefly on the beach fairly recently, with the Salt Elimination feature turned on. I found a penny and a foil wrapper.

It works, I can say that. How well it works (particularly in comparison to the Fisher 1280-X I used to use as a beach machine), I can't really say, though.

Targets on our beaches must rapidly sink below detection range, because I can run for several hundred yards in any direction and not get a single signal- it's squeaky clean, for the most part. I run zero discrimination usually and dig any signal I get. I did get some false signals but the detector was definitely working, which is more than I could say for my old GTAx-550.

is salt elimination only needed for wet sand or also for the dry part of the beach?
hoe do you ground balance in metall mode; this is not explained in the video.
