Using the Explorer II for Deep Iron?

Hello Everyone, I was wondering what settings on the EXPII you would recommend for finding Deep Iron. I want to use the EXPII relic hunting, and looking for Civil war huts, and I need to go deep for the iron in those huts. What settings would you recommend, and can you suggest a better coil than the stock for this.
Thanks for any and all help.

I find a lot of deep iron hunting in CONDUCT. Thats one way of doing it.

a Wot coil may help you a bunch if your ground is open enough to swing it.
i dug an iron pipe at 20-some inches using the wot, thought it was a rifle barrel.
c.c. may be able to help with some ideas also.

bigger iron with override the disc. enough to tell you it's something bigger than a nail etc..
but you might be just as well off using a probe. All depends on how many huts are in the area. Another thought is just find the patches of iron which is easy enough to do and dig a quick test hole to see if the old dirt runs deeper.

WAs this trade axe at about 2 feet. It was still a strong signal so I know I could have got it deeper.

At DIV II I used Iron Mask -16, sensitivity set at 30 auto, all other setting were factory presets. It worked great for me. I used it for both surface hunting and hut searches. Shallow iron sounds were crisp and locked in in the upper left side of the screen. Deep iron would also lock in on the left side but lower on the scale with a lower tone. Buttons and plates came in around the nickle range and 3 ringers locked in where IH's and screw caps normally do. I also used the X-12 coil for suface hunting and switched to the X-8 once I opened a hut. The 10.5 stock coil will probably work just as well as the X-12 but the weight may be a problem later in the day. DIV II was my first relic hunt and a real learning experience for me. There may be better settings but I've going to use these same settings for DIV III. Hope this helped and see you in a few weeks!!!!!
