USPS lost my detector

Well its been 2 weeks and my detector is no where to been found. I recently got a MX5 in trade and sent it to Whites for the tone fix. The USPS tracking shows I dropped it off and that's it. No sort facility or in transit. Called Whites for the hell of it but its not there. Just alittle pissed , never had this problem before with the post office, and no I didn't insure it, should have but I didn't. Called the post office and they took all the info but I think I am SOL.

It may show up..I had a package that didn't show up anywhere for about two weeks. Then it was delivered.....

Sad thing is even if insured............. takes forever to get paid..and, if damaged..they pull the you didn't package to our specifications Sorry No Claim !!

From 1991 until 1998 I shipped a lot of detectors, coils and other components using the USPS without a problem until I shipped a detector I traded to a guy in Idaho for another detector.. When it got to the guy he emailed me and said the box was crushed on one end. He said he didn't open it, but was afraid it was damaged so I told him to send it back and I would return the detector he sent. I had insured the detector I sent for $350, which was less than I had in it.. When it got back to the post office here I filed an insurance claim, but after three months and no insurance money the local post office folks said it was still being processed and had no idea how long it would take. I told them forget the insurance and give me the detector, which they did. Fortunately, the only thing wrong with it was the plug from the speaker and headphone jack to the circuit board had been jarred loose and all it took to fix it was to plug it back up. Since that experience with USPS in 1998 I've used Fedex and UPS and haven't had a single problem.

Bubba, your detector is probably circling the United States on a postal joy ride. I would not send anything of anything via USPS. Most of the time the box will show up somewhere, but this might take a month or so. Good luck.

Sure notice a lot of people have problems with the USPS, but for me it is just the opposite as they been wonderful for me and only had one problem was a detector i sent to Canada and it took 2 1/2 weeks to get there, but I think it was because of customs. One went to Korea and it took 3 days to get there, One to Poland and UPS wanted $165 with it taking about 4 weeks while the USPS price was $63 and had it there in 10 days. In most cases anything I send East or West takes 3 days, but South takes 4 days, UPS takes anywhere from 5 days or more and one even took 15 days to get from Georgia to me in ND.
Lately for the past 2 years the package have been decent, but before 90% at least were damage before I got them.
FedEx is another story as out town has about 10 house in it and they don't seem to be able to find my business as we are the only bar and cafe in town and we have had items sent back because they could not find the address, this last week we got 3 packages for people that live on the other end of the block and just left on our door step. Last fall we had 8 bigger packages for the house behind us dropped off in our back yard, so we are not all all happy with FedEx.
Bought 2 detectors off the auction site and were shipped USPS and didn't work when I got them, but customers said they worked great before they sent them and we had to turn in a claim on them, one was a bad coil when sent to Whites to be repaired, while the other one had the battery contact completely corroded away and was told it had been apart and someone had tried to fix it, but the USPS still paid me for the repair cost even though it wasn't the Post Office fault, but it take about 6 weeks to get my money back.
This is why I have more faith in the USPS than UPS or FedEx
I was told you have to wait around 10 or 15 days if the package don't get there, then they can put a tracer on it and find it for you from USPS, so I would ask your post office to put a tracer on it as your receipt should have a date on it when you sent it plus a tracking number you may not be able to track, but they can at the Post office and see where it was last.
I hope your detector shows up for you in the next few days,

Rick

My experience is pretty much the same as yours Rick... I truely have had nothing but VG luck/service thru the post offfice with all my detector/accesories sales to forum members...... USPS is less expensive then big brown and fed-ex and is quicker to get packages aroung the states....

I hope your package shows up soon... but I will always continue to use USPS for all package transactions...

It seems good or bad service is subjective to location..Big City branches have proven over and over using USPS can be a nightmare... The employees either do not care, or do not have time to care.... Have not figured out which is the case. Supervisors just pass off the problem rather than help in many branches and main post office outlets..

UPS in my area is excellent !! FEDX takes forever..and Post office is a big gamble as far as shipping packages.... One thing to remember UPS does not include weekend movement in most cases.... That has been confirmed by UPS management .......

I never had a problem with the post office until now. Always thought they had decent service and prices are reasonably compare to UPS and FEDEX.

I shipped the detector in the orignal box because I didn't have anything else that size, propably should have wrap it in brown paper to cover up the Whites MX5 Metal Detector with pictures of people finding gold, jewerly and silver coins. Just hope some little grimey person didn't decide to take it for themselves.

Found out a couple a days ago that at my post office they arrested to PO workers, last year, for using thier camera phones and taking pictures of customer's credit cards then using them for purchases.

Well hopefully it didn't come down to that and it's just lost circling the country side. Gonna check with the PO on Monday.

One thing you did is ship it like you said in original box with out wrapping and securing it with some good binding tape . I made the same mistake about 10 yrs ago with a Whites IDX Pro they lost it and never found it ! But since then I have never had a problem with Priority mail have had a detector destroyed by UPS look like it got used as soccer ball but I did get my insurance money from it but it was about 80.00 short on that Hope it finds it way to you

I sent a package to my son in N.C. a few weeks ago he is 450 miles away from us in Va. It was sent Proirty Mail with tracking number it took 11 days and it traveled over 2000 miles. If you as the folks at the PO what is going on they will tell you it happens all the time and nobody understands what is going on. I was told by one person I would be better off using another service. What gets me they keep charging more for the poor service.

I quit using UPS when they started opening my packages, removing my packing material, then charging me for the packing material that they put in the box.

I think USPS Tracking is a Joke when compared to UPS or Fedex tracking. I rarely can actually find out the progress of a package when using USPS Tracking.

I have only had one package not get delivered. Bought an Item on the big auction site and tracking showed that it was shipped. Then when it arrived in one of the big sorting facilities they sent it to the dead letter warehouse. If they could read the tracking number then they should have known its destination. I suspect someone borrowed the item and has just forgotten to return it. NOT

I sent a detector to another forum member Monday (2 day priority) tracking says it got there yesterday just six days:spin: On another note that might be worth mentioning about USPS, Once before when i asked about insuring a package the post office lady said you have to show a receipt for the item you are shipping when you file an insurance claim with USPS???? I said no problem, i can show you a receipt for anything, cause you don't know what i'm shipping, She gave me a puzzled sort of comfused look.. TRUE STORY...

I now use ebay shipping lables for all items I sell. they work great clear easy to read and NO HAND WRITTEN ADDRESS MISTAKES BY ME

I'm presently waiting for a package that was shipped from Virginia to arrive in Massachusetts.

It's been two weeks and the tracking number indicates that they received it and sent it to a sorting facility... and then the trail goes cold!

I've got to contact the USPS tommorow and I'm sure I get a "we'll look into it an get back to you" response.

Beachcomber, your situation is an all too familiar scenario with the US Postal Service. This exact thing has happened to me two out of the last four items I shipped Priority Mail. To add insult to injury, I had two small parcel post packages lost or stolen several years back. I finally have learned my lesson, no more dealing with these incompetents.

I did use the Ebay shipping label from Paypal.

So it's been 17 days and the detector still can not be found. Did go down to the PO and talk to the head honcho and gave him all the info. So we will see what happens.
I think someone lifted the detector
