Storms hit today and the sunshine, so hi ho hi ho off to the beach I go. 2 hours, and I start with this old childs ring, and finish with a V nickel. The nickels are usually not this good of condition.

Excellent! There both nice keepers. From there condition I assume your not hunting a salt water beach?

good job. you done well

I was fresh water hunting. All V nickels are in rough shape that I find. I didn't know they had mint marks. Can't find one on this one. Philadelphia I guess then. Thanks for the kudos! Happy hunting!

FWIW: There Mint Mark isn't very large and can be hard to spot. Here is one showing the S MM. The 1912-S V is a key date and can be worth quite a bid even in poor condition. If interested check out the 1909S-V nickels on Ebay under sold items.

Thanks for the great reply on mint marks of V nickels! I didn't know that. As you can imagine, I quickly checked for it. But no mint mark, the story of my life. Although I have found the 1914d penny, along with 1914s, 1931s x2, and a 1909s, unfortunately it did not have the VDB. Ugh! I also dug up a 1916 Barber, not the 1916 mercury. But the seated dime I found in December was in incredible conniption. Having fun, with it. Happy hunting.

Your very welcome.
Some years ago when wheat penny's were still fairly common I had dug a really crusty 1909S-VDB penny but didn't realize what it was until I ran it through my rock tumbler. It was ugly as they come but fortunately still identifiable after being tumbled. Even in such rough shape it still brought a nice price when I sold it.:wiggle:
