V Nickel Bounce

I have found 2 V nickels since I got my E Trac. Most nickels I dig are a solid 12-13 signal. On both V nickels, the numbers jumped around. the FE was pretty solid 12, but the CO moved between 12 and 16. The first I dug out of curiosity. I dug the second because the signal acted like the first V nickel I got. Both coins were about 5" deep.
Has anyone else experienced this bounce on V nickels?

Not really. The ones I dug locked on a solid 15-15. If the CO is consistently higher than the FE, my findings in this area are it's probably a pulltab. But if they are close, odds are good it's a nickle. So I haven't really seen that in my area but I'm sure yours is different and you may be using different settings etc.

Older nickles bounce because they have pinta "corrosion" on them. Mine bounce that way "V nickles" I have dug them where the soil wasnt as harsh and they didnt bounce as much.

I got an 1899 V-nickel yesterday. The numbers were 12-12 and 12-13 and the nickel was about 4 inches down. Depth can affect the ferrous number but the conductivity numbers vary little. If I get anything between 10-11 to 12-13 it's usually either a nickel or a beaver tail/pulltab.
