Vaquero or Golden U max

The biggest things I see are the v has ground balence and the gold does not.
The gold has a notch filter and vaquero does not.
The gold has multiple tones for better I'd ing things. The v only has one tone.
The v has a pinpoint button, the gold has all metal mode switch which acts as a
Pinpoint .
I too have been pondering the 2 of them for myself. I really wish the golden had ground balance that would make it so easy.

You will be very happy with the Vaquero.....one of the best detectors on the market today for less than 500.00 new. HH

He's been using them for 5 years and has learned his machine. The only problem with the Silver is that when you start to use the DISC feature to determine where the target falls off, you can also lose a LOT of depth.
The Vaquero doesn't have this problem (well, not near as bad as the Silver) The Vac is more VERSATILE with the ground balance feature and GREAT DEPTH! I use the Vac for relic hunting.
The Golden umax (highly under rated for some reason) gives more information and if your soil is not too hot, would also be a good choice. It doesn't have ground balance but neither does my ACE 250 (which I use mostly at my local parks when my wife hasn't taken control of it) and the finds from my ACE paid for my Vaquero! If I were getting a coin/jewelry machine for parks, my first choice would be the Golden. If some buddies ever told me to come visit them on the farm which used to be a Civil War battlefield or barracks then I'd love to own the Vaquero.
Did I mention that you can use the &^%# out of them and their covered with a lifetime warranty? Whichever one you pick, they'll both be awesome ONCE YOU LEARN THEM. Hope this helps.

Ok see this helps. I want a machine for parks, tot lots and schools. And for some high garbage dry desert dirt searching. I am looking for coins , relics and rings etc. But with a few exceptions my target area will be mostly grass areas

You made one statement...."I am looking for coins , RELICS, and rings etc." Both machines have a different language but if parks are going to be your main areas, the Golden will work great. If "relics" are going to be include then the Vaquero might be the one for you. If it's only "relics" occasionally, then the Golden will not only work, but will make you spoiled and lazy...you'll get used to the tones (learning the language). Probably the main mistake most hunters make is to sell their detector without ever really learning it. I've heard and read of those who have owned the Golden, sold it, and like any other Tesoro that's been sold....regretted selling it! The ACE 250 has been great (after having learned it!) but if I ever replaced it, I would probably get the Golden (And I'd still keep my Vaquero).

Now that I am starting to get used to the tones, it is a real pleasure to dig only those high tones if I just feel like coin hunting.
The high tone either means its a coin or something large buried deep and it doesn't take long to tell the difference. If its not a coin, the sound is a bit scratchy.
I'm not sure if its the detector or just coincidence, but I dug 18 dimes. Wow. That sets a record for me.
I also dug 18 pennies (not a zincoln in the bunch, I notched those out), 5 quarters and only one nickel.
I dug only a few pieces of trash.
I have to say if you're a coin shooter, the Golden uMax would be very hard to pass up!"
I only bring this up because not much is said about this great detector, particularly it's use in parks. And 70% of my hunting is in parks/totlots. 25% is at the beach. 5% is when I'm visiting out of state at relatives, usually on farms and I hunt for RELICS (Vaquero all the way).
