Hello to all!

I have been "out of pocket" for a couple of days and not able to be online. When I logged in tonight I found that I am waaaaaay behind on reading!

First of all, WELCOME to all the new folks! I think you will really enjoy being a part of this family!

As for prayer requests, DK - I will continue to pray for Joan. And I am praying for each and every one of you here on the forum.

DK, thanks for reminder about posting pictures and information!

Ma, I'm looking forward to seeing that new picture! Any chance of you posting one of Cliff too????

Steve, I'm so glad to hear that your sister came through the surgery so well! Hope she has a speedy recovery. Also hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip back home.

Mark, were you able to find those pictures you were going to send? The ones of Dachau?

Mike from MI, I will be sending you a PM reply as soon as I can catch up on some things and find a minute to do so.

Yes, Lisa, I will try to take a pic of him and have him take a pic of me....if the camera doesn't break before either of us has our pic taken! I have one of both of us taken in Forest Park by the water fountain in either 1953 or 1954! We both left the farm and came to St. Louis after I graduated! Sure is a big difference between then and now, since 56 or 55 years has passed! Haven't taken them as yet, but will when we both are dressed up better and don't look like two bums or slobs! :) We sorta take one day at a time and have gotten lazy in our older ages! God Bless! Betty

Lisa--Happy to see you back with us. You are welcome for the reminder. I hope more people post. Thanks for the continued prayer for Joan. She is really worried about it all. Pray that she will turn it all over to God>

ya better get one of them email phones! :)

I have one of those phones. I have an LG Voyager with Verizon Wireless. It has email, web browser/Internet, VZ Navigator (GPS), and a ton of other stuff. I love the phone but the Internet/browser isn't anything like a regular computer or my trusty laptop. It can be difficult to navigate through the topic threads and/or post on the forum. I do check the forum sometimes with my phone if I'm away for extended lengths of time, but usually just wait until I'm back to my laptop. I've been having to spend a lot of time taking my parents for their appointments and dealing with other issues - THAT's why I've been "outta pocket" so much lately. Matter of fact, I'm about to rush out the door to take my mother for an appointment this morning to make sure she doesn't have a blood clot behind her left eye that is causing problems with her vision. As a family we really have a lot going on right now health wise. Hopefully, I will be able to do some catching up tonight.

you and the family need some prayer! I will start now!

I will pray for you, Lisa, and your parents concerning Jesus' joyous strength and comforting peace, for you and them and healing for whatever the health problems are, including your mother's eyes! I too have been taking my brother to the dr every week or two, so keeps me busy that way, also! God bless you and yours! Betty

First of all, thank you all for the prayers! They are greatly appreciated! Please continue to pray for us!

My mother doesn't have a blood clot behind her eye, however, we still do not have an answer for the problems she has been having. I assume the doctor will keep on searching for the cause. She has numerous health problems and is prone to falling. She keeps us pretty busy running here and there for appointments, prescriptions, and emergencies. I've had to take her to the ER many times to have stitches in her head from banging it on things when she takes a tumble. She is 77 years old.

My daddy will be 82 in a couple of weeks. We recently found out that he has the aggressive type of prostate cancer. He also has been having mini strokes for awhile now. The mini strokes cause memory problems and weakness in his legs. He has a few other problems but over all he does pretty well. At times it becomes time consuming getting him to his appointments and keeping an eye on him to make sure he doesn't forget his medicines and all. My mother isn't a lot of help with this since she is easily confused too.

We also care for my 79 year old aunt. She doesn't require too much attention since she is amazingly spry and is in pretty good health, but from time to time we do have to help her out with some things. She, and my parents, live 5-7 miles away, so it's not like we have to travel very far to get to them. It's up to Tim (my husband) and me to take care of the three of them 99% of the time because my sister lives in South Carolina.

Tim's mother passed away last May with mesothelioma cancer. Tim cared for her the last year of her life, taking her to all appointments, surgeries, staying at the hospital, and then basically moved in with them the last three months she was alive. Their home is only about a mile from us so it wasn't like he was in another country or anything. Long before she died Tim's daddy started giving us all kinds of trouble! He has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. He has recently had some surgeries (unnecessary) that have turned out to be a nightmare because he developed a severe and deadly infection from it. This, along with the Alzheimer's, means that Tim is having to stay with his daddy now during the day, and his brother has been staying at night (which is a miracle because Len does little to help - EVER!). I'm not sure how much longer Tim can keep this up.

Tim is having problems of his own to boot. First of all, about 12 years ago he was using chemicals to treat some wood logs he was going to use for our log cabin (not sure of the spelling, but I'll take a stab at it - coppernapoline) and it settled in his liver causing liver disease. He is in almost constant pain in his right side and has to take a ton of pain meds. It also causes bouts of nausea and diarrhea. To look at him you would never know anything was wrong, but he sure suffers a lot of the time. He is on partial disability due to all of this. He isn't able to hold down a full time job because he has good days, bad days, and horrible days. On the good days he works with heavy equipment (bulldozers, loaders, etc.) doing jobs for the public... clearing land, building lakes/ponds, chicken house pads, etc. He also does mechanic work on heavy equipment and has the reputation for being the best around! He does welding jobs for the public, and most anything, or any odd job, that is asked of him. He is a jack of all trades! And a good one too! Before the disability he was a steel worker at a steel plant that closed down. He keeps all of the yards in the family mowed - 3 of them + a neighbor's (but I cut our grass) - and does all the maintenance work for all the family. He stays busy constantly.... or was before having to sit with his daddy. We are going to have to work something out about his daddy's situation. Anyway, Tim also has trouble with frequent kidney stones and has been having a lot of pain lately. He went for a scan today (Friday) and will see the doctor on Monday for the results. I sure hope we don't have to go through surgery for that again! Please pray for him!

These things, more or less, are why I had to take a break from teaching. I was needed on the home front! But I miss teaching and need to get back to work for financial reasons. I am very concerned about finding a teaching position with the economy the way it is, and all the cuts in education! Teachers are being laid off or let go right now, and here I am needing to go back to work! In the meantime, I'll hang on at the hotel to fill the gaps. I'm at the hotel now, working 11-7 tonight.

While you are praying, please add me to all of the above. I have severe osteoarthritis, and moderate to severe fibromyalgia. The fibromyalgia that I have isn't the type that causes the muscle pains; the fibromyalgia I have works on the connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments. I'm STIFF and in pain pretty much 24/7. I can't take the types of meds needed for this kind of pain (anti inflammatories) due to having only one kidney. Any other types of meds either do not help much with the pain and stiffness, or I don't take them because of side effects I had rather not have. I take what I can and try to stay as active as possible. I walk on the treadmill, take walks outside, hike occasionally, ride my mountain bike sometimes, and do a little of this and a little of that to keep moving.

Thanks for reading/listening to me ramble!!! I told you I would catch up eventually! You men are probably saying... "Typical long winded woman!" Well, I know plenty of men who can talk circles around any woman I know!!!! :surrender:

Thanks for reading/listening, and for praying!

Couple thoughts. The mesothelioma, I have seen ads on tv by lawyers looking for people either with it, or family members of those who died from it. This might be somwthing to check in to. Might help out financially to recover some of the expenses you all had to deal with and it might be a continuing thing (financial payments for a long period of time due to the early loss of the family member).
I also have a friend who has fibromyalgia. You and her (she is a nurse) might want to compare notes...good lady. I can PM you her email addy if interested. I think there are support groups that she knows about concerning fibro.

My mother in law was misdiagnosed as having Alzhimers. She has Lewy Body Disease. My wife knows a lot about that. So hoping there is no misdiagnosis there but as I say Sherry can tell you more about that. I will PM her addy as well. Her Mom almost burnt her house down because she could no longer live alone - and at that time had someone living with her...but people have to sleep and while the roomy was asleep she set the kitchen on fire. She is now in a nursing home for her own safety and welfare.

I will pray for you all. Your plates are definitely full. Hang in there...prayer help is on the way, and God knowing your needs even before we do and before we ask has already put things in motion to help for God meets our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

My dad passed away 1 1/2 years ago with this. At one time he and my mom and older brother were going to go from Mi. to NV. for some experimental work for this. To help with cost my dad contacted one of the people you see the adds for on tv. Ended up dad was to sick to travel. About a year after he died my mom got a check but the lawyers got about 75% for the settlement. The little bit she got wouldn't even have paid for the trip to NV for help.

Thanks for your post and I'm sorry there are so many health problems in your families like it is in mine! I hurt and ache all over my body most of the time....if I sit or stand too long at a time, I am so sore and stiff that I cannot move or walk for a while! Oh, the pain!! So I understand, as I also have osteo-arthritis really bad and maybe Fibromyalgia....but haven't been diagnosed as having it....although my daughter has it and for a long time wasn't diagnosed after going to several doctors and then found one who understood her situation! She turned 40 last October, so very hard on her at her young age! She takes the Lyceria? and it helps but she has gained a lot of weight since starting on it! The ads do say, it will cause weight gains!

I take an anti-depressant (which causes weight gain, too) and have for years and years....(depression runs in my mother's side of the family) and COPD, which Cliff and I both have....runs on dad's side of the family! He died from emphysema and lots of other health problems, including Alzheimers. My youngest brother, who isn't living any more, and I took care of him in 1984, after losing our mother from a sudden heart-attack and it was a job having to make sure he didn't leave, as he was always trying to get outside and go home from our homes! Dad's sister, Aunt Grace, and grandma (their mom) had it also!

Lots of illnesses in this old world because of people not living right and abusers of the land and the gov't systems! There were a lot of diseases which killed off the population way back in the past centuries....like malaria, yellow fever, flu epidemics and etc/ before all the progress we've made in the past 100 years or so, soooooo it is not all due to pollution and global warming like too many would have us believe! Viruses are in the air all around and after treated with meds they get immune to it and form stronger viruses! This is satan's way of destroying us and the earth! But keep faith and hope in Jesus, for He is our Savior and Lord from dwelling in the Lake of Fire, where it will be much worse....more so than anyone can know right now! Jesus spoke about hell being so terrible that he gave many scriptures on what it would be like!

Prayers will be going up to God in the name of Jesus for all who are needing prayer for you and your families and for all the others needing prayer! God hears the prayers of His righteous saints which avails much and moves Him to answer in His own time and in His own way!

God Bless you, Lisa, and I love you in the Lord's love....the same as all my Brothers and Sisters, who are the saints of God!

Thank you for the prayers and the encouragement, Pete. I appreciate it!

I got your PM and have replied.

Yeah, we are dealing with lawyers about the mesothelioma. My father-in-law has asbestosis that developed from working in a place where asbestos could be seen floating in the air. He has told stories about how at lunch time they would roll something out (?) to sit on and eat off of that was loaded with the stuff. Of course back then they didn't have a clue that it was dangerous, much less that it could make you very sick and eventually kill you. He has been getting checks (not large ones) each month for a few years now as a result of a law suit that was filed on his behalf by Barron & Budd, a law firm from Texas (I think - but why Texas???). I'm not sure how that worked, but I know they filed for several of the workers there who tested positive for asbestosis. Several years later my mother-in-law was diagnosed with mesothlioma, which is a type of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. She did work outside the home at times and could possibly have been exposed from that, but it has been officially ruled that she got it from being exposed to it by washing Jack's work clothes and being in close contact with him for all those years he worked. Barron & Budd are working on the case now, and actually have been since she was diagnosed. I don't know if there will ever be any kind of settlement or not. We may, or may not, ever see a penny. They did tell us that we should get something from the law suit, but that Alabama (of course) is one of only a few states that has some kind of clause that severely limits mesothelioma settlements. We were told that this is due to the fact that Alabama has a major port city (Mobile, Alabama) which, at one time, had a ton of ship yards where ships were built and repaired, as well as a naval base that did the same, and that asbestos was used in these places and in the ships... and when all the trouble with asbestos was exposed, Alabama jumped on the wagon to get something passed to protect the state, the government, and those businesses from being responsible and/or having to participate in asbestos related cases. This is what we were told by the law firm. We did some checking and they are pretty much correct, even though I really don't know all the details. So for now we're just waiting to see what will happen. Dorothy died on May 27th of last year and Barron & Budd hasn't given us much information at all since then.

Lisa

I'm sorry for your loss, Greg, and that the settlement turned out like it did. I don't know how your dad suffered, but I sure know that Dorothy really suffered the last 4 months she lived. Especially the last four weeks.

Lisa--Joan and I are praying for your mom, dad and Tim. God Bless you and your family. We know you are facing some tough obstacles in your life, but remember God is in control. He will see you through this. We pray for you that God will give you the strength to deal with all that has been handed to you. God has promised not to give us more than He knows we can handle. We can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us. I truly feel that all of us here on the forum are one big family. We are here for you. Anytime you need to let it out, we will listen. Please, always keep us informed and updated to all that you are facing. God Bless.

I really appreciate ALL the prayers! Over all, I think we handle things pretty well, and I know it's through the grace of God. Tim tends to let it get to him at times and gets down and out and exhausted, but I usually am able to click right along and roll with the punches without too much trouble. I'm a very laid back and flexible person who doesn't get frustrated easily (although I DO have my times) and have always been able to take things in stride. I have a really huge sense of humor and can, most of the time, find something to laugh about even in the worst of situations, and that's always a big help. I think I was raised to have the attitude of, 'we just do what we have to do, and we might as well make the best of whatever it is we're having to do.' Of course that doesn't mean I'm happy about what's happening or what I'm/we're having to do, but I figure I have the choice of being miserable and making everyone else in my path miserable, or I can just trust God and try to make the very best of it - and maybe even have some fun out of it, or use it as a learning experience, or be a blessing to others while doing it. I know that God is in control! Thanks again for the all the prayer and support here on the forum! It is truly a blessing!

Lisa
