VDI Numbers 1-30to40

I am hunting here in North West Indiana and I have noticed (along with a few others etrackers) the numbers 1-30 thru 1-40 coming up quite a bit. They are sweet sounding tones but usually either its a ghost hole or junk. Has anyone ever dug anything worth wasting the time on with these number combos? They sure can be frustrating. TMAN...

Yep, agree with Beep, only because I have dug a number of them only to find rusted old iron or a dry hole. Of course not to confuse those with repeatable breaking high sounds (from two or more directions) which usually turn out to be good targets. Pin pointing and looking at the crosshairs and depth really does help determine this as well IMO.

Yep, coins on edge. Widen your hole or use a pin pointer to see if it's in the sidewall of the hole. That's how it was for me in the New England area.

Thanks for the input folks. I have seen an increase in these numbers especially with the wet ground. I am switching to open screen when I get these now to see if the cursor goes to the bottom and if the numbers change. TMAN...

I only dig those numbers if they are deep....usually the shallower 30-40's are trash. I have noticed that sometimes the 1-30 to 1-40 can be aluminum cans and often are deep.

I also take into account where I am hunting. If it is in a old home site, I can be somewhat sure that it is not a can. Those I dig. In a park, I do not.

Small rusted iron nails, if you don't have a sun ray probe, they are difficult to locate.

Well I was able to get out the last few afternoons. I had many 1-30/40 numbers show up on my screen. 4 tone is best for me and what I started to recognize was that alot of those tones in that number range were either the third highest tone or second. However, when it was the highest tone, and I could get a decent tone in two directions, I dug it. Turns out 2 out of 3 holes had a coin. The third hole had a nail on the side of the hole. SO, if you are getting those sweet tones in both directions with funky numbers you better start fishing. Thanks to all for your responses. TMAN...
